Focus Questions
Due:  by Friday, Midnight CST each week

Focus questions relate to literary elements in the assigned readings. 
Each response shall be 100-150 words
The first sentence shall be a thesis statement that contains a specific reference to the question.
The response shall provide an explanation of the question with specific details and direct quotations from the short story for support.

 


Critical Essay #1

Critical Essay #1 will be a well-organized interpretation of a story focusing on an analysis of three literary elements, e.g. background and influence, structure, theme, characterization, symbolism, imagery, or other literary elements of your choice.
This essay shall be 500-1000 words, APA or MLA format.
Choose a story from the book that is not on the syllabus.
List the title of the story and the author's name.

     


Critical Essay #2

Critical Essay #2 will compare and contrast two short stories.
The comparison/contrast will focus on comparable characters, themes, settings, or other literary elements or historical/biographical/sociological/psychological elements and ideas.
This essay shall be 1,000-1,500 words, APA or MLA format.
You may choose stories that are on the syllabus.
List the title of the stories and the authors' names.

 


Critical Essay #3

Critical Essay #3 is a critical research paper that analyzes the novel.
Secondary source material shall be used to support your ideas.
Appropriate historical/biographical/sociological/psychological elements and ideas shall be used to analyze the novel.
This essay shall be 2,000-2,500 words, APA or MLA format
At least four secondary sources must be used. (TWO WEB SITES ALLOWED.)
