| Written by Ryan Meaning: When we look back into the history of our country, we can see that racism has been a huge part of this country. From 1861 to 1865 the civil war was fought between the northern states and the southern states. Part of the reason for this war breaking out was slavery. When the war ended in 1865 with the south being defeated by the north, Abraham Lincoln (who was the president at the time) declared that everyone was free. Then oppresion became a big supporter for racism. Not only was it Blacks and other ethnic groups of diffrent skin color other than white, but many minority groups who migrated to the United States in search of freedom became a victim of oppression when they reached the shores of the United States. I wrote this song because even after the Civil War ended and everyone was declared free, there still excisted the sense of unequalism among minorty groups, and it wasn't till the Affirmative Action Laws went into effect that equalism started to show up across this country. Also, judgment. Some people (mostly racist) judge other people by the color of their skin and automatically labilize them as stupid, or not as smart as they are. I believe that there will always be racism, but with the support of organizations such as the A.R.A and help from you to stand and fight against racism and sexcism we can knock this down. |
