Chapter 6
Two weeks later, Kyo was almost completely back to normal after having been pampered and spoiled rotten by his four bandmates. Kaoru grinned as he watched the blond devour the food he had made for breakfast that morning, commenting on how good it would be to get back to work with the rest of them after having such a long break. As much as he liked to complain about their busy schedule, it was obvious he'd been getting tired of doing nothing.
"Careful, Kyo, you don't want to choke," Toshiya commented, sharing an amused look with Kaoru.
Kyo blinked and looked up at him. "Do you know how long it has been since I've had real food? That crap that the doctor okayed for the last week tasted like cardboard," he proclaimed, stuffing his mouth again.
"Well, we don't want to have to take you to the hospital again if you end up clogging up your windpipe with food," Kaoru replied.
"Won't happen," Kyo stated firmly, although he was grinning along with them.
The phone rang then and Toshiya got to his feet to answer it. It was Die, and he wanted to talk to Kaoru about some new guitar scores they'd been talking about for the last while. Kaoru took the phone and the two of them talked for a few moments before Kaoru hung up again. His breakfast was getting cold, and Die had to take care of a few things before they went to practice that morning.
"Toshiya says that you've been staying here the whole two weeks," Kyo commented when he sat down.
The bassist gave him a cheeky grin, then bounced from the room with a wink and a brief explination of needing to get ready for practice.
Feeling himself blush, Kaoru took a bite of his food before replying. "Yeah. I was worried about you, so I slept on the couch in order to help Toshiya out by being here," he replied.
"Why didn't you tell me? You could of crashed in my room. It would of been a lot more comfortable than the couch," Kyo stated.
Now he knew that he was blushing, probably enough to be noticed. There had been a few times when he'd had to resist the temptation of sliding into bed next to the vocalist. "I guess it didn't occur to me to let you know. Toshiya offered to let me stay in his room, but I was all right on the couch," he explained.
Kyo looked at him for a long moment, having finished his breakfast already. "You really were worried about me, weren't you?" he finally questioned.
Kaoru forced himself to give a casual shrug. "Yeah, I was," he admitted. "You're one of my closest friends, and you almost died. I guess it kind of gave me a rude awakening to how precious our friendship is to me."
"Are you planning to stay tonight as well?" Kyo questioned.
Grimacing a little, Kaoru shrugged. "I don't really have a reason to. You've fully recovered now, and I haven't checked up on my apartment for a while," he replied. In fact, he had only been there once, long enough to get some clothing and his toiletries.
"I think you should stay," Kyo stated.
"Oh?" Kaoru asked.
The blond nodded, grinning. "I'm all right now, so you should come over after practice and we can play video games or watch a movie. I want to stay up late and have pizza. It seems like forever since we last hung out without it involving you playing doctor," he said.
"I don't need to stay the night in order for us to do that," Kaoru pointed out, although he wouldn't mind another night staying in the blond's home. It had been fun, pretending that he lived here even while crashing on the couch. During that time, he could let himself fantasize about what it would be like to look after Kyo, cooking meals for him and wishing him goodnight before bed, maybe stealing a kiss in the hallway when they passed each other.
"No, you don't have to, but it would be nice to have the company. Toshiya is going out with Die and Shinya tonight," Kyo explained.
"He didn't meantion that to me," Kaoru replied.
Kyo shook his head. "Die asked him when he called a few mintues ago. I'm not going because alcohol wouldn't be good for me right now, and I don't like drinking anyway. If you would rather go with them, then it's okay."
Kaoru pretended to think about it for a moment, then smiled and shook his head. "I think it would be more fun to stay here. I don't really feel like going out," he replied. Although his tone was calm, his mind was bouncing around with the knowledge of having a quiet evening with Kyo all to himself.
"Great!" the blond said, returning his smile. "I'm going to get ready for practice now."
Kaoru nodded, watching as the vocalist made his way from the room. His smile didn't fade as he finished his now-cold breakfast. Maybe tonight he would gain the courage to tell Kyo his feelings.
