Cobra 75 WX ST CB Radio

After Instaling the Remote Box, I began to work on the bracket to ground the Antenna. The Bracket was built using a 6" flat mending brace, a 3" 90 degree mending brace, a 2"flat mending brace, two 1.5" flat mending braces, and six 12 mm bolts, and one 2" nylon screw. I had to bend the 3" brace to match the contour of the molding so the Antenna bnacket would remain in contact and be grounded.

The Bracket gets bolted into the body by the black brace located on the underside which is the lower attachment point for the rear moldings. I had to drill 2 holes into the black brace for the bracket to attach properly. Putting everything together was a bit challenging, and it was very much like a puzzle to assemble everything properly.

I used the 1.5" braces to stablize the forward portion of the bracket. The next bolt goes through the black brace and both mending braces. The next hole is the nylon screw which goes through the braces, through the molding, and then through the black brace.  The last bolt just goes through the mending braces. I had to cut a hole in the molding for the 3" brace to enter, and then another 2" is attached at the top, and this gets pinched by the antenna bracket to ground the setup.

The Bracket isn't 100% perfect, as you might notice the antenna is angled out slightly to the right. This is to provide clearance of the antenna for the rear hatch, other wise the hatch just hits the antenna. However, after mounting everything, I still had to route the coaxial cable from the Remote Box to the Antenna.

I originally wired the Coxial cable by going through the air vent located on the side of the X. I later rewired the cable in the following manner. I started by loosening the passenger side cargo molding. If you look in the area behind the molding, you'll see a rubber grommet.  I had to unplug the wiring underneath the body to remove the grommet, and then I pushed the coaxial cable thorugh the grommet.  I then put the grommet back into place, plugged the wiring back in, and ran the coxial cable to the antenna mount.

After running the cable through that black box, I ran it under the carpet in the cargo area after passing it under the interior side molding.  The cable then runs under the rear seat and under the carpet under the passenger seat, and up to the opening uderneath and behind the molding where the Cobra Remote box is mounted. To run the cable there, I did have to unbolt the front passenger seat, and remove the bottom portion of the rear seat. I have the antennae tuned using a SWR meter at a ratio of 1.8:1 on channel 20. That tuning has the antenna tuned to about 1.25:1.0 on channels 1 and 40.
