A BRIEF HISTORY

The Evolution of Decent Exposure

What follows is my attempt to briefly convey some of the more significant events in the history and evolution of Decent Exposure. Though this is brief, the D.E. era actually spanned over 15 years, most of them being pretty good ones.
The initial members of the band formed together based on good friendships established in High School in the mid-seventies. We were a young and spirited bunch and determined to make a name for ourselves (a good one, that is.). In the early years we were known to practice in garages, living rooms, basements and even a warehouse on the Riverfront. It didn't matter, we would play there. Eventually, we named ourselves Decent Exposure (a play on words, yet in a musical context). The founding members were:
  • Bob Chanitz - Bass Guitar
  • Steve Ebert - Rhythm Guitar, Vocals
  • Steve Johnston - Drums, Percussion
  • Jim Kish (that's me) - Lead Guitar, Backup Vocals, Percussion
  • Bill Terry - Saxophone, Backup Vocals, Sound Technician

This version of the band rocked around the St. Louis area playing mostly cover tunes and just a couple of "originals". We were very much into classic rock and were noted for playing some select songs that no one else was playing (but they were good songs). Our first gig was a Battle Of The Bands at Mississippi Nights on Laclede's Landing. We won. We played various venues in and around the St. Louis area and developed quite a following. We became a favorite at the St. Louis Pub and played there regularly. Our brand of Rock and Roll was well received. We were a cohesive unit and, especially after welcoming Michael ("Drew") Palmasano as our lead vocalist, we rocked and started to roll through most of the 80's. deboat
