EDITORIAL

The only word to describe the recent Sir George

Williams crisis is "Sad": Sad for the students in-

volved, sad for the professors, and sad for the admin-

istrators. In short it was sad for all concerned and

sadening for many not even remotely concerned.

How could it have been avoided? We do not pre-

tend to be qualified to answer this question, but it

is our belief that it should have been avoided at all

costs. We do not know on whom the blame lies. Indeed

we doubt very much whether all the blame may be placed

on one person or group of persons. However, it is the

students involved who must take the consequences.

Here lies the point of our editorial. All of the

students arrested in the building at the time, whether

or not they participated in the destruction, are by

law accomplices and subject to the same penalty; in

this case a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.

Whatever the verdict, it will stain their record cards

for the rest of their lives. When we reach these

higher levels of education, we intend to keep our

heads high and our noses clean.
