Some where along the line I got a diploma in Civil Engineering. I do contract work which gives me more time to spend in the mountains climbing and backcountry skiing. I have worked primarily in heavy construction Dams, Bridges, Roads and Large commercial buildings. I just spent the last 3 years on some military contracts that were involved in ballistic protection and load carriage ( my climbing experience leant well to the later because most climbers are gear heads). The military contracts were a real departure from construction but they were still involved in strength of material.I may in the future manage the Canadian Frag vest contract for the same company that I did the other contracts for.
I do some amateur guiding for the Alpine Club of Canada and I am sorry but I will not be able to attend the reunion. About two years ago I agreed to lead a group of mountaineers into the Clemenceau Ice Fields from August 2nd to August 9th. The Clemenceau Ice Fields are a very remote area NW of the Columbia Ice Fields and are only visited by any group once or twice every couple of years. I got my first big trip this weekend. My self and another guy are taking a group of 15 into Mt. English for an overnight trip.
I am a single father with 12 year old Annie and 16 year-old Tyrone living with me. Annie's is a little thing but a go getter. Last year she got into competitive snowboarding ( We live only 35 minutes from Big White). She did really well took a second in a half pipe, a second in a slalom and a third in a boarder cross. She may get a sponsorship from a local board shop. My son Tyrone is 16 with a tattoo and earrings. He is pretty funny and we are good friends but he is typically 16. He plays High School football and snowboards. My kids don't go in the mountains much with me, they think its too much like work and the days are long, so I don't push them. They haven't made the spiritual connection yet.
