Result: Old Edwardians 1st XI won by 56 runs
This was a top of the table clash between the leaders, Old Eds and the second
placed team, Solihull Municipal.
Old Eds lost the toss and were asked to bat. The overnight rainfall did not
make it an easy pitch to bat on but openers Mike Hughes and William Webb
managed a respectable opening stand of 71. Hughes was bowled by David Frost
for 43 as he tried to accelerate the run rate. The middle order collapsed,
losing 5 wickets for 26 runs. Dominic Ridley and Nick Harris then put on a
useful stand of 43, to take the score to 140 for 7. Ridley top scored with 46;
Old Eds making 157 all out.
Municipal went in to bat and lost a wicket with the first delivery of the
innings, bowled by Alistair Seal. John Nicholls and Amjad Zaman took the
remaining 9 wickets between them, Zaman taking 4 for 34 and Nicholls taking 5
for 21. Municipal were all out for 101. Old Edwardians won by 56 runs and
gained maximum points: 24.
Old Edwardians extend their lead at the top of Division 1 of the Carlyle
Finance Warwickshire Cricket League.
