Old Edwardians Cricket Club
Kings Heath v Old Edwardians
Birmingham & District Premier League - Division Two (East) - 2nd XIs
Kings Heath Sports Club, Alcester Road, Birmingham, 4 May 2002
Result: Old Edwardians 2nd XI won by two wickets.
Toss: Old Edwardians elected to field.
The first league match of the season ended in a dramatic victory for Old
Eds.
Rajah Khan bowled with control to take the first five wickets, including
one to a fine one-handed catch by Terry Dean. He was given good support by
Keith Lowe, Jon Reynolds and Preston Fletcher. Neal played cautiously and
skillfully for Kings Heath but had very little support from a weak batting
line-up.
Old Eds, in contrast, had one of their stronger batting line-ups but no-one
was able to dominate. Kings Heath put every batsman under pressure with Hunt
bowling particularly well. Phil Clarke stood firm as others scored a few and
then fell away. He had good support from Neil Chandler, who survived long
enough to give Old Eds a chance.
Preston Fletcher turned the match with two huge sixes in the closing overs,
and Old Eds celebrated a great start to the season.
