Oprah says being a mother is one of the hardest jobs in the world, and being a mother, I do agree. Now, imagine being a mother and a military spouse…of a man who returns from a hardship tour only to play the field. When Tables Turn is a 407-page novel that brings these two worlds together in a dramatic, witty, and captivating reading experience.

Eight years ago, when Nijha Amour Jenkins (now Tinsel) married the man who promised to love and take care of her, no one could have made her believe she would one day find herself wondering why she said “I do” in the first place. Her husband, SSgt. DeSean Montrell Tinsel (Sean), has been back for six months from Korea, where he had been stationed for eighteen months on a hardship tour. Nijha comes to feel the “hardship” didn’t start until he returned home. Patiently, she and the couple’s two sons, Dajon and Marcus, waited on Sean’s return, and now that he is back, he may as well still be in Korea. He can’t seem to bounce back into being a family man again.

Sean feels he should be allowed more time; after all, when a soldier serves on a hardship tour, he is, for the most part, a single soldier, being that the families stay behind. Thinking he has every right to go out every now and again with his friends, Sean doesn't understand why his wife is always nagging him about spending time at home.

As Nijha and Sean deal with their family troubles, friends in their close-knit military community face challenges of their own. Sergeant First Class Michael Manley has been with the same woman for what feels like an eternity, and together they are the proud parents of a thirteen-year-old daughter. Calling himself “Big Daddy,” he cannot seem to let go of the seventies...or of his resentment over his wife’s success. Sean watches Manley chase after numerous females at the NCO Club and begins to get ideas.

Sharon Manley, Michael Manley’s wife and Nijha’s best friend, is the “H.B.I.C.” at Children and Families. She worked hard to get to where she is and even harder at getting through some turbulent times in her marriage. As her husband distances himself from her, she begins to look for support from another “mystery man.” Nijha sees Sharon as the epitome of strong, black women and as a mentor.

SSgt. Zane McGill is every woman’s dream and every man’s nightmare. A divorcee, he is a doting dad when it comes to his daughter, Raine, but he craves the life his “boys,” Sean and Manley, have: the married life. A one-woman man, Zane has no problem making it known. He wonders why the good men seem to have problems finding good women who are not dating, engaged…or married.

When Tables Turn has something for everyone, and prepublication sales prove it. While reading these 407 paged, 128,995 word novel, the reader will cry, laugh, and say “Hmm,” wondering if I have written about their friends or relatives.

I will be traveling to military installations all over, compliments of the Main Exchange, and they will be running a commercial in the store for two weeks before I arrive at the location to get soldiers and their spouses ready.

This is my first novel, but as I often say, if I live and nothing happens, it won’t be my last, and that will not only benefit me as an author, but you as a reader!
