Rigged for deseptive operations; the Joey D set coarse north of the Artic Circle and completed her mission in half the time required. She was awarded the Meritourious Unit Commendation by the Secretary of the Navy for this action in 1985. 

The Russians were never the same!  We all helped win the "Cold War" and contributed to changing the world.
Ships History:
DLG-27 Commissiond May 8th 1965, Capt Harry A Cummings was her first commanding officer. She was origionaly fitted as a Guilded Missle Frigate. and served in the 6th fleet.  She was Reclassified and retrofited June 30th 1975 becoming a Gulded Missile Cruiser, CG-27

Josephus Daniels was a Belknap Class Ship
she displaced 7930 tons, a beam of 32 ft, a length of 547 ft and top speed of 32 knots
She carried a compliment of 27 officers and 450 crew.

She was decommisioned Jan 22nd 1994 in Norfolk Va.

I had the pleasure of sharing with my shipmates the rich Naval heritage of my family. Great Uncle RAdm E.J. Marquart of Valparaiso, Indiana was incharge of the Brooklin Naval yards when the Iowa was built in 1942.
