Art beyond Conflict

A Cross Section of Irish Art Born Out of A Struggle for Peace

In Northern Ireland the pressure of relentless war between the IRA and the British army was immense. A burgeoning literature emerged as the tensions and the cruelties of the conflict gained expression in novels, short stories and poetry.

Jack Pakenham's paintings are disturbing and uncompromising and reflect his own personal history of crossing and re-crossing personal and geographic boundries. The viewer is forced to confront a disturbing and stark world of bigotryand suffering.
