Born on Wednesday May 10th, 1898, to Mr. and Mrs. James Hatley a son, LLOYD LEROY HATLEY.
Dad went after the mid wife and when he got back I was there and making a big noise and still doing the same.
I don't remember very much aboute my early life, when I was aboute six years old my folks moved to Saskatchewan Canada the following took place on the morrel place aboute three miles S.W. of Millbamk, S.D.. Here are some of my memories** I was sick as a child, weighed only 35# when I was eighr years old. Remember my first day in school, mother had me all dressed up in a Lord Font leroy suit and dad took me to the school**a large girl said I was cute and grabbed be and gave me a big kiss, of course being bashful I did not like it and gave her a cussing, had to stand in the corner befor school started. Dad used to trade horses and one time when mother and I went to town with him he traded our horses for a different team, we started for home and dad dropped one of the reins and the horses started to run, we came to a curve and the buggy tipped over and all three of us landed in the ditch. We had a neighbor named Aehlerand he always wore a heavy sheepskin coat in the hot weather, said if it keeps the cold out it will keep the heat out. My grandfather on my mothers side (Ed Medley) was at our place for dinner one time asked grandmother medley to bring him some more tea, when she brought him the tea she slapped him on the back and he let out a yell and grabbed his arm, a rusty needle came out of his arm he did not know where he got it in the first place. One of my neices Golda Medley had a stomach operation which was performed on the kitchen table at her home and she died on the table. My first lesson on taking things that don't belong to me, dad took me to town with him and left me in the store, Hauses general store, they were emptying cheap julery and throwing the empty boxes away, I took one and on the way home I had to have a look at it and dad said son where did you get that box. I hesitated and dad took me back to the store and made me say I was sorry. Another incident was dad hired a man to help and he was a long haired guy who got me to cut his hair, he had lice and I inherited some of them. We had two dogs one a large black a bull don, when some one went by with a dog the big one would let a roar and rush to the road and the bull dog would follow and starta dog fight and the black dog would sit and watch the fight. My doctors name was Jockrtell. Bob and his family lived on a farm not too far from our place and as he was planning moving to Canada we all met therefore a fairwell dinner, Mother, Dad and I and Mary and her girl and husband, the folks went somewhere and left us kids at home with the hired man and he got us kids cleaning stove pipes, we were all dressed in white so you can see what happened, we were all in trouble. Bob and his family moved to a small town in Saskatchewan by the name of Quapple. It seems that the Duke of Canaugh and the Royal family from England came over here to shoot ducks. They shot a great many and burried them. I did not see this but it was told to me. I often wondered why dad said keep away from your relatives, here is why. grandfather Medley asked dad if he could have a few sheaves of oats for his horses. dad help yourself, when we were coming home from town we met grandfather with a load of oats and we did not have a good crop so he took most of the oats we had.
