I retired in 1960 and sold our home in Anacortes. We moved to Salem and purchased a house on 18th st., N. E. It was an electric house no chimney but there was no garage so I built one with the help of the neighbors. While I was building the garage I broke by leg. We spent our winters in Arizona, living in our trailer. WE rented our house just to be able to insure it and then in the spring we would come back to Washington. There are many beautiful places in Oregon. I had a bad wreck here in Arizona at Messa, good thing I had insurance. It was on one of these trips that the Columbus day storm it here, it wrecked my walnut tree and took part of the alley when it went down, also my neighbors garage. At that time we were down in Susanville and it snowed there. We just got home from this trip when re received word that merwin had passed away. Our house had been sold so we had to start packing. WE got to Bremerton for the funeral.
