LATHAM, Hilbish - Miss Hilbish Latham, age 60, former Skagit County resident, died Sunday in an Everett nursing home.

She was born May 31, 1909 in Ash County, North Carolina, and came to Skagit County in 1917. She had resided in Snohomish County since 1949.

Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Hillie Roark and Mrs. Hettie Tyree, both of Sedro-Woolley, and Mrs. Lillian Winklesky of Marysville; three brothers, John Latham of Alger, Carl and Todd Latham, both of Marysville, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Hulbush Chapel with the Rev. S. E. Foskett of Warm Beach officiating. Music was by Betty Cross and Helen Foskett accompanied by Mrs. Herbert Weber.

Interment followed in the family plot of the Burlington Cemetery.

LATHAM, James Alexander - Burlington, Sept. 18--(Special)--John Alexander Latham, Bow hill farmer who passed away in the Burlington hospital early today after a residence of about twenty years in this county, leaves aside from his widow, Nora, seven daughters and four sons, 37 grandchildren and five greatgrandchildren to morn his passing. The Latham family enjoyed a wide acquaintance throughout the lower Skagit valley.

The deceased was born in Ash county, North Carolina. For a number of years he worked in mills, then engaged in farming in Bow, Skagit county, having come here from North Carolina in 1917.

Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Nora Latham of Bow; seven daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Davenport of Belfast; Mrs. Hettie Tyree of Sedro-Woolley; Mrs. Lillian Winklesy of Lowell, Miss Hilbish Latham who lives at home; Mrs. Eleanor Ershing of Bow and mrs. H. Roark of Sedro-Woolley.

The funeral will be held at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon in the Walter R. Hulbush Funeral home.

LATHAM, John Roy - John R. Latham, age 82, of Alger, died Tuesday, July 1, 1975, at his home.

He was born April 8, 1893, in Troute, North Carolina, and came to Washington in 1918.

His marriage to Faye Rorark took place November 25, 1911, in Tennessee.

Mr. Latham was a retired logger and farmer.

Surviving are his wife, Faye, at home; three daughters, Osa Barrington, Burlington, Ora Prouty, Hamilton, and Lillian Smith, Bremerton; one son Kelsey, Alger; two sisters, Lillian Winklesky, Marysville, and Hetty Tyree, Sedro-Woolley; two brothers, Carl and Todd Latham, both of Marysville; 23 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and one daughter-in-law, Melvina Latham, Alger.

Funeral services were held Thursday, July 3, at the Hulbush Chapel with Pastor Evert S. Seymour of the Burlington Free Methodist church officiating. Music was by Mrs. Paul Cross. Casketbearers and honorary bearere were Kelsey, Les, Ron and Ray Barrington, Eugene Hassler, John, Stan, and Steve Latham, and Kenneth Smith, Jr. Interment was in the Burlington Cemetery.

LATHAM, Laura - Mrs. Laura Latham, 74, former resident of the Bow community, passed away late Friday in an Everett hospital.

Born May 31, 1874 in North Carolina, she and her husband came to Wahington in 1917 to reside at Bow. Mr. Latham passed away September 28, 1936, and a year later Mrs. Latham moved to Everett. She had also resided for a short time in Sedro-Woolley, Bellingham and Marysville.

Funeral services have been set for 1:30 p.m., Tuesday at the Walter Hulbush chapel in Burlington. Interment will follow in the Burlington cemetery.

Surviving are four sons, John of Bow, Carl of Marysville, Todd of Everett and Arthur of Brown's Summit, N.C.; seven daughters, Mrs. Hettie Tyree of route 2, Sedro-Woolley, Mrs. John Blanton and Mrs. James Davenport of Burlington, Mrs. Lyle Winklesky and Miss Hilbish Latham of Marysville and Mrs. William Ershig of Bellingham; also 48 grandchildren and one brother, Maylor Eastridge of Moxee City, Wash.

Steve W. Latham, 51, passed away at the Veterans Hospital in Seattle after a long battle with NonHodgkins Lymphoma, on Monday, October 2, 2000.

He was born in Anacortes on October 4, 1948, the son of Stanley and Malvina (Anderson) Latham Raymer.

Steve attended school at Burlington-Edison High School and was drafted in 1968. He served in the United States Army and completed a distinguished tour of duty in Vietnam. As a decorated veteran, he was awarded three bronze stars for his exemplary service to his country.

Steve married Sandra Jerns on April 16, 1971 at the Allen Blanchard Methodist Church. After their marriage, they lived in Bow and Steve became a welder. Steve and Sandy had three children. In 1986, the family moved to Tonasket. Steve earned three degrees from Wenatchee Valley College, North Campus in 1993. Steve attended Washington State University and completed a bachelor's degree in economics.

In 1995, the family moved to Moses Lake where he worked as a foreman in heavy construction.

An avid outdoorsman, Steve's interests included: hunting, fishing, hiking and camping.

Survivors include his wife Sandy at home in Moses Lake; one son, Shawn Latham of Moses Lake; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lynette and Jeff Pollock of Napavine, Heidi and Jason Benjamin of Tacoma; mother, Malvina Raymer and stepfather Bud of Bayview; two brothers and a sister-in-law, John Latham of Sedro-Woolley, Stanley and Lisa Latham of Burlington; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Majorie Banks of Sedro-Woolley, Jeanie and Ray Jerns of Acme; Kathy and Dwight Schultz of Bellingham; Pam and Bob Egbert of Sedro-Woolley; and two step grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his father, Stanley and infant sister Marilyn.

Furneral services will be held Saturday, October 7, 2000 at Allen Blanchard Methodist Church at 1 PM. Interment will follow afterwards at Bayview Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hulbush Funeral Home, Burlington.

Vanetta Latham, 92, died July 24, 1999 in Snohomish, WA.

A native of Mt. Vernon, WA, she and husband Carl had lived and worked over 4 decades in Smokey Pt. and Marysville, WA. In the 50's they established Latham's Produce Market and Flying A Gas Station on South State Street in Marysville. They sold to Carl's brother Tod (Selma) Latham in 1968 after moving their location to North Marysville.

In semi-retirement they sold produce seasonally at Smokey Pt. and Lake Goodwin.

For over 60 yrs. Vanetta was a loyal member of the Jehovah's Witness, and was loved and admired by her many friends for her positive attitude.

Vanetta was the 3rd child of Henry and Alma Moores LaFond and granddaughter of Sarah and James Harvey Moores who homesteaded 85 acres in 1876 on the west side of Mt. Vernon.

She was predeceased by husband, Carl in 1982, and grandson, William Brunelle, Jr. in 1999. Her survivors include sister, Bonniebell LaFond of Roseburg, OR; daughter, Nadine Gard of Everett; granddaughter, Cherine Brunelle of Lynnwood; grandson, Mathew Brunelle of Everett; great-granddaughter Druzelle Atkins; and great-great-grandson, Myles Torres of Los Angeles.

A Memorial Service will be held at Marysville Kingdom Hall, 4780-67th St. NE, Friday, August 6, 1999 at 7:00 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made in her name to Kingdom Hall or PAWS.

MAYNARD, Flossie (Hobson) - Flossie (Hobson) Maynard, 84, of Burlington, a long time resident of Skagit Co., passed away March 9, 1998, in Burlington. She was born August 12, 1913, in Big Sandy, Montana.

She was raised in Skiyou and graduated from Sedro-Woolley High School in 1932.

She worked at Northern State Hospital, in the business offices, for many years.

Flossie loved to bowl and fish. She was a member of Mount Vernon New Thought Study Group and Order of Rosecrucians.

She was preceded in death by her former husbands, Floyd Hammond and Ralph Hobson and a brother, Clarence Latham.

Flossie is survived by her husband, William Maynard, at the family home; her daughters, Norma Moser of Shelton, Coralie Munsell of Centralia and Charlene Heberd of Huntington Beach, CA; and a stepdaughter, Jean Marie Pallogi of Sedro-Woolley; Bill's son, Ed Maynard of Arlington; sisters, Bert Kiser of Anacortes and Merle Hunter of Rancho Santa marguerita, CA; brothers, Wayne Latham of Puyallup and Lloyd Latham of Anaheim, CA; her 8 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service for Flossie will be Friday, March 13, 1998 at 1:00 PM at Hawthorne Funeral Home.

A reception will follow at the Maynard Home at 671 Steelhead Lane, Burlington (Steelhead Park). Memorials are suggested to the North Puget Sound Oncology, 1971 Hwy 20, Sedro-Woolley, WA 98284.

Cremation and inurnment was conducted at Hawthorne Memorial Park under the direction of Hawthorne Funeral Home.

TYREE, Hettie R. - Hettie R. Tyree, Sedro-Woolley, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 1991, at Skagit Valley Hospital and Heath Center. She was 90.

She was born March 15, 1900, at Trout, Ashe County, North Carolina, a daughter of James A. and Martha E. Latham, now deceased.

In 1917, she came to Skagit County and married Roby L. Tyree Sr. on Dec. 22 of that year. Mr. Tyree died in 1946.

Mrs. Tyree served as a foster mother to more than 300 children in Skagit County. She was a member of the Sedro-Woolley Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

She was preceded in death by two grandsons; nine sisters, Marticia, Bessie, Hillie, Donia, Lillian, Hilbish, Ellamae, Florence and Carried; and give brothers, Arthur, Oren, John, Carl and Todd Latham.

Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law, Grace and Dave Johnson, Sedro-Woolley; Violette Tyree, Mount Vernon and Valrie and Bill Terwillegar of Mount Vernon; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Ernext and Beverly Tyree and R.L. "Robert" Tyree, Jr., all of Sedro-Woolley; nine grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials are suggested to the Hickson Volunteer Fire Department care of John Rutherford Jr., 1899-77 Prairie Road, Sedro-Woolley, 98284.

TYREE, Robert L. - Robert L. Tyree, 54, died in his home, Sedro-Woolley, route 2, Monday afternoon.

Born in North Carolina, Jan. 15, 1892, Mr. Tyree came to Skagit county in 1917 after living in Montana for a number of years. He was married to Hettie Laham Dec. 22, 1917.

In addition to his widow he is survived by four children, Ernest, Sedro-Woolley; Robert L. Tyree, Jr., U. S. Navy; Mrs. Violet Johnson, Sedro-Woolley and Mrs. David Johnson, Sedro-Woolley.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p. m. at the Burlington Free Methodist church. Interment will be in the Burlington Cemetery.

TYREE, Robert L. "June" - Robert L. June Tyree, 77, of Sedro Woolley, died Wednesday, November 5, 1997, at the Skagit Valley Convalenscent Center.

He was born June 20, 1920, in Lyman, a son of the late Roby and Hettie (Latham) Tyree.

He was a 1938 graduate of Burlington High School. During World War II he served with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific. He was stationed aboard the light cruiser U.S.S. Phoenix. Following his discharge he returned to Skagit County and was employed in the logging and construction industries.

He was a member of Laborers Local No. 901, Mount Vernon. His hobbies included hunting and fishing. He was a concerned ecologist regarding the Samish River.

Surviving are three sisters, Violette Tyree, Mount Vernon, Grace Johnson, Sedor-Woolley and Valerier Terwilliger and her husband, Bill of Burlington, one brother and sister-in-law, Ernest and Beverly Tyree, Sedro-Woolley; numerous nieces and nephews. He was proceded in death by his parents; one nephew, Gerald Tyree; brother-in-law, Dave Johnson.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, November 12, at the Hulbush Funeral Home. Pastor Randy Quinn of the Allen Blanchard United Methodist Church will officiate. Full military rites and interment will follow in the Burlington Cemetery. Remembrances are suggested to a favorite charity.

HALLETT, Edmond Grant - Ill for a long time, Edmond Grant Hallett, 73, of 202 E. Center Street, Pomona, died at 1:55 p.m. Sunday at the Sunshine rest home, San Dimas. A native of Winnesheet, La, he came to California 13 years ago and had lived in Pomona the past eight years.

A widower, Mr. Hallett was a member of the Pomona Church of the Brethren. He is survived by one son, Fred Hallett of Ontario; five daughters, Mrs. J. K. Breaux, Mrs. O. L. Casce and Mrs. Elmer Riggs, all of Ontario, Mrs. George McCullough and Mrs. O. L. Barnhill, both of Louisiana; one brother, George Hallett of Longview, Wash.; and 20 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 10 a.m. from the Richardson mortuary chapel at Ontario, with the Rev. Harry E. Thomas, pastor of the Pomona Church of the Brethren, officiating. Interment will follow in Bellevue cemetery, Ontario.
