Lois Forslund celebrated her 8th birthday on September 28th at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Forslund. There were 17 children present. After games were played, the honored opened her gifts. Lunch was served by hostess, Mrs. Forslund.
Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Hodapp and family of Fort Dodge arrived Friday evening to spend the weekend with her sister, Mrs. Lee Forslund and parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ewin, and helped Lois celebrate her birthday.

CARDS TROUNCE BRAVES IN LITTLE LEAGUE OPENER HERE MONDAY By Don Sherman
Monday night saw the first little league action of the season, as the Cards had a big fourth inning which helped them to defeat the Braves 11-3.
In the first inning for the Cards, Rodney Koerner walked. Scott Schenkelberg put Rodney on second base with his single. Gale Gaffey then walked. Thus the catcher, Carl Hartman, came up to bat with the bases loaded.
He grounded out to first on a fielder’s choice, putting two runs across the plate. These were the Cards only two runs in the inning. The Braves had no runners crossing the plate in the first inning. The score at the end of one inning of play was 2-0.
In the second inning, Jim Hauan was the only runner to cross home plate for the Cards. He walked to first and stole to second. He went to third on Tom Casteel’s double and when the catcher dropped the ball. Jim stole home for the Cards run.
In the Card’s fourth, Rodney Koerner walked to first and moved to second on a single by Scott Schenkelberg. Greg Wilson then walked, filling the bases.
A walk to Dick Mower then forced one run across and again leaving the bases loaded. Jim Forslund got a double on an error, putting two runs across the plate.
The Cards pitcher, Gary Cameron, put two more runs across with is double. Next Carl Hartman and Jim Hauan both walked.
Tom Casteel singled driving in Gary Cameron. Carl Hartman came across on Scott Schenkelberg’s single. The bases still being loaded. Gregg Wilson walked bringing in the eight and final run of the inning.
The Brave’s scored in the fourth inning, too. Larry Albert got a double and was driven in by Tom Baack’s double on an error. Brandt Taylor’s double put Tom Baack across home plate. The score at the end of four innings of play was 11-2.
The Braves run in the sixth inning was scored by Tom Stead. Tom got a double and took the remaining bases when Larry Albert got a single on an error.
The final score at the end of five and one-half inning of play was 11-3.
The winning pitcher was Gary Cameron and Carl Hartman was the catcher. Tom Baack suffered the loss with Tom Stead backing the plate.

Charles E. Ewin
Charles E. Ewin, 75, of Route 5, LeMars, Iowa, died Monday (August 12, 1963) at Sacred Heart Hospital after a two week illness. A retired railroad employee, he had been hospitalized three days.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. (August 14) at First Baptist Church with Rev. Alvern Kinrade officiating. Burial was in Resthaven Memory Gardens under the direction of Mauer's Funeral Home.
Charles Emerson Ewin was born May 22, 1888, at Sterling, Colorado, a son of Mathew and Ella Lothrop Ewin. He came to LeMars at the age of two with his family and had lived here since with the exception of a period of military service during WW 1.
His marriage to Gladys Kennedy took place September 18, 1921, at Dakota City, Nebraska. He held memberships in the First Baptist Church and Plymouth County Baracks Veterans of World War 1.
Surviving are the widow; a son, Vernon of Seney; four daughters, Frances Bos of Dallas, Texas; Mrs. Lee (Ruth) Forslund of Seney; and Mrs Eugene (Ida) Hodapp of Fort Dodge; 14 grandchildren; a brother, Arthur of Des Moines; and two sisters, Mrs Mary (Effie) Obermire and Mrs. Iona Clark, both of LeMars.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, two sisters and two infant grandchildren.

Life's End Mrs. Iona M. Clark Funeral Rites Are Held Monday Afternoon
Funeral services for Mrs. Iona M. Clark, 72, of LeMars, who died Friday evening (June 5, 1964) at Brentwood Nursing Home after a long illness, were held at 3 p.m. today at the Mauer Funeral Home.
Rev. Milo Morris, pastor of the First Methodist Church, officiated. Burial was in the Seney Cemetery.
Mrs. Clark, the former Iona Ewin, was born Jan. 21, 1892, near LeMars and she lived most of her life in the LeMars area except for a short time when she lived in Armour and Corsica, S.D.
She married William B. Clark April 27, 1910, at Armour, S.D. She was a member of the First Methodist Church, WSCS and Happy Hour Club.
She is survived by two sons, James of Cherokee, IA. and Franklin of Pueblo, Colorado; a sister, Mrs. Mary (Effie) Obermire of LeMars; a brother, Arthur Ewin of Des Moines, IA; and five grandchildren.

HARVEY OBERMIRE RITES PLANNED WEDNESDAY AT ST. JAMES CHURCH
Joseph H. (Harvey) Obermire, 67, a retired Plymouth County farmer, died Monday at Floyd Valley hospital after a 2-day illness.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. James Catholic church. Rev. Joseph Kerwin will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
The rosary will be recited by the parishioners at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Wiltgen-Luedtke funeral home and by the Knights of Columbus at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Mr. Obermire was born Feb. 4, 1899, at LeMars. He married Alice M. Levins Nov. 24, 1920, at LeMars, and they farmed near LeMars until retiring in 1957.
Survivors are his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Vincent Dieterman of LeMars, Mrs. Joseph Carney of Longmont, Colo., and Mary L. Obermire of Worthington, Minn.; his mother, Mrs. Ralph Obermire and a brother, Rev. Ralph Obermire, both of Ledyard, CA; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph; two sons, Robert H. and Joseph, and a sister, Margaret.

Life's End--as reported in LeMars, Iowa MRS. RALPH OBERMIRE RITES SET MONDAY IN LEMARS CHURCH
Funeral services for Mrs. Ralph (Mary Effie) Obermire, Sr., 88, Bakersfield, California, longtime LeMars area resident will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 23 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in LeMars.
Mrs. Obermire died Oct. 11, 1967, at a hospital in Bakersfield. The former Mary Effie Ewin was born Dec. 17, 1879, at Rutland, Illinois. She was married in 1897. They lived on a farm near LeMars for 55 years.
Following the death of her husband in 1952, she lived with her son, Rev. Ralph Obermire, at Struble, Morrland and Ledyard. She moved to Bakersfield, Calif, two months before her death.
She was a member of the Franciscan Third Order and the Christian Mothers Society of LeMars.
Survivors are the Rev. Fr. Obermire; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Inez Obermire of LeMars; five granddaughters and a grandson of Fresno, California; a brother, Arthur, of DeMoines. There are 19 great-grandchildren.

Ralph Obermire as the Celebrant, Rev. John McKee Sub Deacon and Msgr. Roger L. McCann, Deacon, for Mary Effie Obermire, 87, of 3201 Idaho St., who died Oct. 11, in a Bakersfield hospital after a long illness. Her remains are being shipped to the Gunderson-Selleggren Funeral home at Ft. Dodge, Iowa, where a Requiem High Mass and Rosary are scheduled for Friday night at Corpus Christi Church, and final rites will be held at LeMars, Iowa, where Rosary and Requiem High Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph's church, and burial will follow in the family plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery at LeMars, Iowa.
Mrs. Obermire was born December 17, 1879, in Rutland, Illinois, and has lived in this community for the past 6 weeks. She was a home maker for over 60 years, was member of St. Joseph's Parish, the Christian Mothers Society at LeMars, Iowa, and the 3rd Order of St. Francis.
Survivors include her one son, Rev. Ralph Obermire of Bakersfield, and one sister-in-law, Inez Obermire of Oildale. Pallbearers will be Bud Ogden, Ken Collins, Lou Ogden, Harry Hulsey and Ed Del Monte. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Knights of Columbus, Bakersfield Council 977. Honor guard will be by the Admiral Callaghan General Assembly Knights of Columbus.
