COMES NEAR LOSING ARM IN COG WHEELS
Martin Obermire Has Narrow Escape While Freezing Ice Cream, Saturday

Martin Obermire is temporarily retired from work due to an accident which
happened Saturday that could have turned into the loss of an arm. Mr.
Obermire was freezing ice cream at his place of business and in some way his
shirt sleeve got caught in the cog gears. This pulled his arm into the
gears, where the flesh was torn quite badly. Mr. Obermire quickly jerked
his arm from the gears, which possibly is the only thing that saved the arm.

He was taken to the LeMars Clinic and upon thorough examination it was found
that it would not be necessary to remove the arm.

BAPTISTS PLAN BETTER BUILDING

At a called business meeting of the First Baptist church held in the church
last Monday evening, it was voted to remodel the church building in order to
secure more and needed room for the ever increasing Sunday school classes
and also to make for better worship services in the main church auditorium.
This will necessitate an entire re-arrangement of the interior for the
building including the altar, baptistery, and choir accommodations. The
heating plant will also be renewed and some extra rooms added which will be
used for Sunday school purposes. In the basement the kitchen will be
enlarged, the social room re-arranged and rooms added. It is hoped that
these changes make possible a better system of religious education and
worships.

stated her carriage and appearance has been affected by the lump on her
shoulder as a result of the accident.

FERN CHAPMAN NOW A BRIDE POPULAR YOUNG WOMAN OF SENEY, IS WEDDED TO ORVILLE COOPER

A pretty home wedding was celebrated on Wednesday, at high noon, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Elam Chapman, when their daughter, Fern Ruth, was united in marriage to Mr. Orville Cooper.  The home was beautifully decorated in pink and white, the bride's chosen colors.  To the strains of the Lohengrin wedding chorus, played by Mrs. Earl Chapman, the bridal couple took their places beneath a pink and white arch, under a large white wedding bell, where Rev. M.L. Metcalf read the service making them man and wife.

The bride was becomingly dressed in a coral pink georgette dress and carried a bouquet of pink and white roses and carnations.  The groom wore a suit of tan mixture.  After the ceremony a sumptuous three-course dinner was served to about forty guests, by four young ladies, Mesdames Albert Hawkins, J.M. Kunath, Ethel Moir and Ina Lancaster, who were dressed in the bride's colors, pink and white.

Mrs. D.F. McArthur and Mrs. R.H. Zimmerman assisted the young ladies in the honors of serving.

Many valuable and beautiful presents were received by the couple.

The bride's going away dress was rose colored silk, with accessories to match.  They left the same evening for different points in Nebraska.  On their return they will reside on the R.A. Hawkins farm, north of Seney.

Those from a distance attending the wedding were:  Mr. James Alderson and daughter, Miss Myrtle, of Elgin, Neb.; Albert Muxlow and Mrs. R.H. Zimmerman, of LeMars, and Rev. and Mrs. M.L. Metcalf, of Sioux City. [They were married February 15, 1928.]

17 Feb 1928, SENEY: The roads in this vicinity have been bad owing to recent snow and warm days.  As it is hard for cars to get through our young men have taken to going on horse back or in buggies and while they may be somewhat a back number they are more sure to get through the mud.

25 Dec 1928: DEATH CLAIMS SENEY PIONEER
Jonathan Alderson Dies Following a Brief Illness of Pneumonia
EARLY ELGIN SETTLER....Enjoyed a Large Acquaintance in the Community
Died December 20, 1928

Death claimed Jonathan Alderson, a well known and respected citizen of Seney for many years, at his home Thursday afternoon, following an illness of grip and complications lasting ten days. His great age precluded hopes for his recovery when he was first taken ill. Mr. Alderson was 80 years of age. He was born at Reeth, England, March 8, 1848, and lived there until he was fourteen years of age when he came with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Alderson, to America. They were early settlers near Shullsburg, Wis., and Jonathan Alderson lived and worked there until he became a young man.

Mr. Alderson came to Plymouth county forty-six years ago and settled in Elgin township where he lived the rest of his life.

Mr. Alderson engaged in farming and later lived in Seney, where he conducted a general merchandise store and was postmaster for several years. He was a leading figure in the community and enjoyed the trust and confidence of all
who knew him and took a live interest in affairs. He was a member of the Masonic fraternity, joining the organization when a young man.

Mr. Alderson was united in marriage to Miss Agnes Knewstubb at Argyle, Wisc. She preceded him in death nineteen years ago last August.

Mr. Alderson leaves to mourn his loss two daughters, Mrs. Elam Chapman of Sioux County and Miss Sadie Alderson living at home, and one son, John Alderson of Seney. A daughter, Mrs. Ida Kennedy, died eight years ago to the day upon which Mr. Alderson passed away. Another daughter, Leone, died when a child.

There are five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

He is survived by two brothers and two sisters, James Alderson and George Alderson, Mrs. Ben Cooper all of Elgin, Nebraska and Mrs. E.M. Lancaster of Seney, Iowa.

The funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Seney Methodist church and were very largely attended by old friends and neighbors. Rev. M. L. Metcalf, pastor of the church, conducted the services and paid a tribute to an honored pioneer and good citizen.

The pallbearers were old neighbors of long standing, Wm. Falk, Jacob Nussbaum, John Osborn, D. F. Mc Arthur, Grant Chapman and J.J. Deegan. The interment was made in the family burying plot in the LeMars cemetery.
