Sixteen Candles
Performed by: The Standards

"You guys ready?"  Jonny asks as he lights the sixteen
candles on the chocolate cake.
He pauses to look up at Morgan, Jordan, Nick, Nate,
and Quinn Williams who are all nodding their heads.
"Whenever you are," Jordan agrees.
"Perfect," Jonny replies as he lights the last few
remaining candles and picks up the cake.
"On my mark," Jonny reminds carefully carrying the
cake out of the kitchen and to the rec room where
Jessie's sixteenth birthday party is being held.
The five brothers follow the blonde through the house.
 They stop at the door of the rec room, which was
filled with many many people.   Jonny has invited as
many of Jessie's friends as possible.  Race and his
father are away on a trip, but both had been eager
about the party, though they wouldn't be there to
enjoy it.
"Now," Jonny says.
As the brothers begin to sing they follow Jonny deeper
into the room and towards the star of the party.  The
room quiets as Quinn sings the first words of the
song.

"Happy Birthday.  Happy Birthday baby, oh, I love you
so."
Jessie, who had been talking to a group of friends,
stops and slowly turns around, a smile on her face.

"Sixteen candles.  Make a lovely sight."
Jonny finds himself caught up in the way the candles
are reflected in Jessie's eyes.

"But not as bright, as your eyes tonight."
Jessie looks up into Jonny's eyes to find them
sparkling with pride and love.

"Blow out the candles."
Jonny sets the cake in front of Jessie who pauses to
make a wish.

"Make your wish come true."
She takes a deep breath and then releases it making
the candles all flicker out.

"For I'll be wishing that you'll love me too."
Background: "That you love me too."
Jonny puts his arms around Jessie from behind in a
hug.

"You're only sixteen"
Background: "Ahh, you're sixteen"
One by one Jonny and Jessie both pull the candles from
the cake counting them and licking the frosting from
their ends.

"But you're my teenage queen."
Background:  "Ahh, you're my queen."
After they are done with the candles Jonny pulls a
president from behind his back and gives it to Jessie
who's eyes light up.

"Woah, you're the prettiest, the wittiest girl…I've
ever seen."
Background: "I've ever seen, yeah."
The flash of a camera catches them of guard and they
look up to see Hadji, a Polaroid camera in one hand
and the picture in the other, waving it around.

"Sixteen candles…in my arms with love."
Jessie sets the present down, rises, turns towards
Jonny, and hugs him.

"For ever, and ever.  Oh, I love you so."
Background: "Oh, I love you so."
He hugs her back and they rock back and forth.

"You're only sixteen."
Background: Ahh, you're sixteen."
Hadji lays the fully developed photo next to the tape
and the unopened present.

"But you're my teenage queen."
Background:  "Ahh, you're my queen."
Jonny and Jessie are slow dancing to the singing.

"Oh you're the prettiest, the wittiest, girl…I've ever
seen."
Background: "Oh, I've ever seen."
Jonny whispers,  "I love you" into Jessie's ear.

"Sixteen candles in my arms with love."
Jessie pulls back, smiles at him, then leans forward
again and kisses him.

"For ever and ever, oh I love you so."
All: "Oh I love you…so."
The two are still kissing when the song ends.


The clapping of the guests brings Jonny and Jessie out
of their embrace, but Jessie can't stop herself from
hugging Jonny one more time.  Finally, she reseats her
self with Jonny standing behind her, his hands resting
lightly on her shoulders.
Hadji, and the Williams help surround the birthday
girl with bright smiles as, first she inspects the
picture before handing it to Jonny, then goes for her
present.  Jonny pretends to be interested in the
picture as he watches Jessie unwrap her gift out of
the corner of his eye.
Jessie gasps and Jonny smiles as she pulls a delicate
locket out of the package and holds it in the palm of
her hand, admiring the way the light glints off of it.
 She opens it to find a picture of herself and a
picture of Jonny on either side of the locket.  She
then closes it and hands it to Jonny to put it on.
The Standards start a round of "Happy Birthday" as
Jessie lifts her hair and Jonny fastens the necklace
around her neck, then kisses the spot right in front
of her ear.

The End
