'Speak Gently'

Speak gently, it is better by far,
to rule by LOVE than by fear.
Speak gently, let no harsh word mar,
to cause a single tear.

Speak gently to the young,
for they have enough to bear:
Passing through this life as best they can,
'tis full many an anxious snare.

Speak gently to the aging one.
Grieve not the worn old HEART,
whose sands of life are nearly run.
But let such in reverent peace depart.
Speak gently kindly, to the poor,

Let no harsh tone be heard.
They have enough they must endure
without the scornful, unkind word.

Speak gently, tis but a little thing
Dropped into the HEART'S deep well:
The good, the joy , that it may bring
for ETERNITY, THE "JUDGEMENT"
Shall Surely Tell.
