| Nedry's Arguement |
| Camera returns to the control room with Mr. Arnold pecking a pen on the computer monitor. Arnold "Vehicle headlights are on and they're not responding. Those shouldn't be running off the car batteries. Item 151 on today's glitch list. We have all the problems of a major theme park and a major zoo, and the computers aren't even on thier feet yet." Hammond "Dennis, our lives are in your hands, and you have butterfingers?" Nedry turns around laughing "I'm totally unappreciated in my time. You can run this park from this room with mimimal staff for up to threee days. You think that kind of automation is easy? Or Cheap? YOu know anybody who can network eight connection machines and debug two million lines of code for what I bid for this job? If you can, I'd love to see him try." Hammond "I'm sorry about your finacial problems, Dennis, I really am, but they are your problems." Nedry "Oh, you're right, John, absolutely right. Ya hknow, everything's my problem." Hammond "I will not get drawn into another financial debate with you, Dennis. I really will not." Nedry "There's been hardly any debate at all." Hammond "I don't blame people for thier mistakes, but I do ask that they pay for them." Nedry "Thanks, dad." Arnold "Dennis! The headlights." Nedry "Yeah, I'll debug the tour program when they get back, okay? Okay? It'll eat a lot of compute cycles. We'll lose part of the system for awhile. There's afinite amout of memory. You cant' use it for everything, ya know. You gonna compile for half an hour, for crying out loud?" Muldoon "Quiet! All of you! They're approaching the Dilophosaur Paddock." Camera returns to the explorers Kiley "If you will look to your left you will see the dome of the Jurassic Park Aviary, which is not yet finished for visitors. Directly below is our Mesozic Jungle River wherer, if you are lucky, you just may catch a glimpse of a very rare carnivore. Keep your eyes peeled, everyone. There they are now, the animals that you are seeing are Dilophosaurus." Grant "Dilophosaurus!" Ellie "Yes!" Kiley "One of the earlist carnivores, Dilophosaurus is actually poisons, spitting it's venum at its prey causing blindness and eventually perilusis. Making Dilophosaurs one of the beautiful but deadly additions to Jurassic Park." Ellie "Alan, where?" Grant bangs on the dash "D***!" The explorers turn a corner and lave the river behind. Kiley "Continuing on our prehistoric safari, we come net to the herbivores of the Tops group. If you look to your right, you can probably see them now." The audiance sees two animals, standing motionless in the shade of a large tree. There were three others walking around in the distance. They where Triceratops. Kiley "Unlike other dinosaurs, Triceratops serratus can't see well. They're nearsighted, like the rhinos of today, and they tend to be surprised by moving objects. They'd chrge our car if they were close enough to see it. But relax, floks, we're safe enough here. Now we move on th the most famous dinosaur of them all. The Tyrannosaurus Rex." Regis smiles "You're all going to love this guy." The explorers go on and threw a tunnel were they stop at a rise. They overlook a forested area sloping dwon at the edge of the lagoon. The sun was falling to the west. The whole landscape of Jurassic Park was bathed in soft light. You can see everyone in both cars looking out the windows to see the animal. Malcolm sighs "God creates dinosaurs. God destroys dinosaurs. God creates man. Man destroys God. Man creates dinosaurs." Ellie "Dinosaurs... eat man. Woman inherits the Earth." Grant, Malcolm, and Gennaro stare at her. Arnold on speaker "We'll try to tempt the rex now. Keep watching the fence." A small cage assends with a goat bleating. Lex "What's gonna happen to the goat? He's gonna eat the goat?" Tim "Excellent." Regis "What's the matter, kid? You never had lamb chops?" Lex "I happen to be a vegetarian." The goat is still bleating. Grant "T-Rex doesn't want to be fed. He wants to hunt. Can't just suppress 65 million years of gut instinct." The goat is then shown lying down. Camera returns to the Control Room with Hammond pressing keyboard buttons. Malcolm on the screen "Uh, uh, now., everntually you do plan to have dinosaurs on your, on your dinosaur tour, right? Hello? He- Hello. Yes?" Hammond "I really hate that man." Camera returns to the second explorer with Malcolm sitting down. Malcolm groans "See, the Tyrannosaur, uh, uh, dowsn't obey any set patterns or, or park schedules. The essence, uh, of chaos." Ellie "Um, I'm still not clear on chaos. Wh-what does that mean?" Malcolm "Oh, oh, it simply deals with, uh, unpredictability in complex systems- the short hand is the, the Butterfly Effect. A butterfly can flap its wings in Peking, and in Central Park you get rain instead of sunshine." Ellie laughs as she puts her hand over her head "I missed it." Malcolm laughing "I go to fast. I did a fly-by. Give me that glass of water. We're going to conduct an experiment. It should be still. The car's bouncin' up and down, but that's okay. It's just an example. Now, put your hand flat like a hieroglyphic. Say a drop of water falls on your hand. Which way is the drop going to fall off? Which finger?" Grant is looking out the window as he hears deep roaring in the grass clearing. He also sees a jeep. Grant wispers to Gennaro "Do you see that too?" Gennaro "Oh, yeah." Ellie "Thumb, I'd say." Malcolm places the drop "Aha. Oday. Now freeze your hand. Don't move. I'm going to do the same thing, start with the same place again. Which way is it going to roll off?" Ellie "Let's say back, the same way." Malcolm "Same way. Back the same way. It changed. It changed. Why? Because thiny variations. Uh, the orientation of the hairs on your hands--" Ellie "Hey, Alan look at this." Malcolm continuing "Um, the amout of blood distending your vessels, imperfections in the skin--" Ellie "Imperfections in the skin?" Malcolm "Oh, just... microscopic, microscopic. And never repeat and vastly affect the out come. That's what?" Ellie "Unpredictability." Malcolm "Right." Right then Grant and Gennaro both open their doors and jump out of the explorer. Malcolm "There. Look at this. See? I'm right again. Nobody could've predicted that Dr. Grant and Mr. Gennaro would suddenly, suddenly jump out of a moving vehicle." Ellie goes out Gennaro's door "Alan?Donald?" Ellie shuts both doors. Malcolm "There's uh, another example. See, here I'm now by myself, here talking to myself. That's that's chaos theory. Camera goes back to the Control room with alarms sounding. Hammond "Stop the program. Stop the program." Muldoon "I told you how many times we needed locking mechanisms on the vehicle doors?" Just then Wu and Kathy enter the room. Wu "What's going on?" Arnold "Everyone got out of the vehicles at the Stegosaur Paddock." Wu "Well, maybe they can help Dr. Harding figure out what's wrong with those animals." |
