Akina
was born at home in Oomori, Tokyo-to, as the 3rd daughter, 5th child of
Mr Nakamori Akio and Mrs Chieko. She has 2 elder sisters (Akie & Akiko),
2 elder brothers (Akihiro & Akinori) and 1 younger sister Akiho. Akina
has very strong bond with her late-mother and liked to stick around her

The
Nakamori family moved to Kiyose, a city at the outskirt of Tokyo. Akina's
mother wanted her children to grow up surrounded by nature. |

1968 |
The
financial situation of her family was quite bad. Her mother had to start
work after Akina turned 3. The photo on the right = Akina at 4. |

1969 |

Akina
started taking ballet lessons at Yokoyama Ballet School right in front
of the Kiyose station. Akina's mother had to do door to door selling of
electrical cookers in order to pay for her lessons. Knowing that her mother
had to work really hard to pay for her lessons, Akina has not skipped a
single class in her 10 years of training (from age of 4 to 14). The classic
ballet lessons is a key reason for Akina's excellent stage performance. |

Akina
started schooling at the Yurikago Nursery School.

Akina
started to attend the Kiyose Elementary School with her siblings. In first
grade, Akina wrote in her composition that she wanted to become a singer.
However, it was her mother's dream, rather than hers. Akina has always
wanted to be a nanny. |

Akina
started to cook for her family since primary 2. She would do her shopping
after school at near-by grocery stores. Akina was also very active in acting
and drama performance at school.

started to attend the Kiyose Junior High School with her siblings. |

Akina
sent out her first "Star Tanjo" application postcard. |
2nd
semester 1979 |
Akina's
first attempt at "Star Tanjo" for the qualifying round at the Sogo departmental
store in Yuraku-cho, Tokyo. That day, she was accompanied by her mother.
She sang Iwasaki Hiromi's "Natsu ni Dakarete" and became one of the 10
qualified contestants (out of almost 8,000) to qualify for the preliminary
round (Akina chose "Natsu ni Dakarete" after discussing with her sister,
Akiko). |
Oct
1979 |
Akina's
first appearance on TV. She sang Iwasaki Hiromi's "Natsu ni Dakarete" again
during the preliminary round at Kourakuen Hall. But the judges did not
appreciated her singing and she lost. Their comments were that the song
was way too mature for a 2nd-yr junior high student. |

Akina
sent out her second "Star Tanjo" application postcard. |
Summer
1980 |
Akina's
second attempt at "Star Tanjo" for the qualifying round at the Sogo departmental
store in Yuraku-cho, Tokyo. She sang Matsuda Seiko's "Aoi Sangosho" and
made it into the preliminary round again. |
Oct
1980 |
Akina
sang Matsuda Seiko's "Aoi Sangosho" again during the preliminary round
at Kourakuen Hall. But again, the judges did not appreciated her singing
and she lost. The comments were that since Akina has a baby face, she would
be better off singing children songs. Akina got mad at that instance and
protested, "You commented that I'm better off singing children songs. However,
Star Tanjo doesn't allow contestants to sing children songs, does it?!" |
Apr
1981 |
Akina
started to attend the Seita Dani Shiritsu Daito Gakuen. |
Summer
1981 |
Akina's
third attempt at "Star Tanjo" for the qualifying round at the Sogo departmental
store in Yuraku-cho, Tokyo. This time, as all contestants had to go through
2 rounds of contest. Akina sang Takeuchi Mariya's "September"
for her first round and Yamaguchi Momoe's "Yume
Saki Annai Nin" for her second round. She made it the preliminary round. |

Jul 1981 |
The
program was shown on TV on 02 Aug 1981. Akina sang Yamaguchi Momoe's "Yume
Saki Annai Nin" during the preliminary round at Kourakuen Hall. This
time, the judges gave her a total of 392 out of 400. |

1981 |
After
qulifying for the preliminary round, Akina took a 1-month vocal and dancing
lesson at Japan TV Music Academy. |

Nov 1981 |
Akina
attended a press conference organised by "Star Tanjo", whereby all the
finalists were formally introduced to the mass media and recording companies.
Akina wore a outfit borrowed from her mother. |

The
program was shown on TV on 06 Dec 1981. Grand
Final of "Star Tanjo" at Kourakuen Hall too. Akina's sisters and mother
were present. Before performing Akina said, "Nakamori Akina. I'll put in
my best effort. Please take a listen." Akina sang Yamaguchi Momoe's "Yume
Saki Annai Nin" again. After the contest, Akina received invitation
from some 11 recording companies. |

1982 |
Akina
withdrew from the Seita Dani Shiritsu Daito Gakuen and transfered to Meidai
Nakano High School because she had broken the school rules by appearing
on public TV programme. |
Feb
1982 |
Akina
flew to LA. She recorded her debut single and album, and shot her first
vedio clip all within 5 days. |
Some
time Feb~May 1982 |

Akina,
with the help of her siblings, did a survey at the Kiyose Junior High School
to find out which of the songs that she had recorded in LA should be her
debut single. In the end, together with Kenon, Akina decided that it should
be "Slow Motion". |
