|
Sweden/Sverige is about the size of Spain, Thailand or California (174,000 sq. miles). The country is mostly covered with forest, about 10% in farmland, thousands of lakes, unique beaches and historical sites. Approximately 85% of the population are members of the Lutheran faith of the Church of Sweden. Sweden is a monarchy, led by King Carl XVI Gustaff (having only ceremonial functions) and a parliamentary government. Today (2004) Sweden's population is approximately 8,891,5000.
My Martinsson ancestors came from the Skane region of Malmohus lan located in southern Sweden. The immediate family lived on a farm called, Haroldstrop, a short distance from Rogla that is northwest of Ystad. Ancestors also lived in Skarby and north in Blentarp, Sovde and Tagra.
