I carved this piece almost twenty years ago. I know I'll never be able to make another like it. I just don't have that kind of time anymore. The three pairs of snakes were carved out of one piece of birch and are still inseparable. The large clam shell was made from a birch burl which I harvested in northern British Columbia where I lived for many years. The figure in the clam shell is like rippled gold and changes depending on the viewing angle. All of this carving was done strictly by hand. No power tools. It took many hours to sand and polish the burl piece. The clam is about ten inches in diameter. $5,000
