Weekly Review: HYP Annual Meeting

Last night Donnie Brown and his staff hosted HYPs annual meeting on the third floor of The Firehouse. The ambience of that room is great, and even though it doesn't mesh with the rest of the restaurant, it was perfect for the meeting.

HYP did a great job of keeping within their time frame as all of the past presidents spoke and then the new board/committee memebers were introduced. I have to question the guys in bright blue jackets playing Santanna every time someone walked on to stage, but it was a nice event for HYP. I do, however, give a big fat zero to the absence of the Mayor. I am sure that with the changes going on, many memember wanted to hear Mayor Reed speak, but his absence came as a surprise to all attending.

Overall, HYP put forward the best goal I have heard yet. RETAIL downtown. We need to have an influx of stores into the downtown area. I live and play downtown every day. I should be spending my money downtown as well, but due to the pittance of stores in Harrisburg proper, I blow my money at Capital City Mall. A few stores in Strawberry square, possibly headlined by a department store would keep myself and my cronies downtown. Lets face it kids, a cute little tanktop is much more expensive than a few Guinness at Scott's. Well, not necessairily at the rate that I drink, but I also love clothing, electronics, furniture and jewelry. Harrisburg is a better place to 'work, live and play'....so let's start shopping too! I have my name on the first pair of BCBG slides at Macy's!
