Description

Artistic Style for Windows is a C, C++, C#, and Java source code indenter and formatter that uses Artistic Style as the engine. Now you can work with source code that is consistently formatted using the indentation and formatting you expect. You will no longer be distracted or confused by the formatting preferences of others. Well formatted source code is also easier to understand and remember.

With Artistic Style for Windows you can focus on coding instead of indenting and formatting. Source code can be easily inserted, removed and modified without being neatly formatted and aligned with the existing code. When you're done, just format the sections that have changed. The selected code will be reformatted to reflect the requested indentation and formatting. The unselected code, which may have your own special formatting applied, will remain unchanged.

Artistic Style for Windows can be integrated with most development environments. It can be executed from them and will open the currently active document. This provides fast and convenient access to the formatter.

The Options Dialog box contains a user friendly view window that shows the effects of each option as it is selected. It offers over a variety of options for customizing the look of your source code. It has several predefined styles (including ANSI and K&R) that you can use "as is" or as a starting point for creating your own style.

Last but not least, it is absolutely free. Try it and see if your source code is not more readable and easier to understand.

Windows

Artistic Style for Windows should work with Windows 98 or higher. This includes Windows 98/ME/NT/2000/XP/Vista. It will work with Windows 95 if Internet Explorer 5 has been installed.

Linux and Mac

Artistic Style for Windows should work on Linux and Mac OS X when running under WINE.

Installing

Artistic Style for Windows does not come with an installer and does not use the system registry. To install the files, extract the zipped file into the folder where you want the files to reside. This can be done from Windows Explorer by right clicking on the zipped file and selecting “Extract All”. When the program is executed a configuration file will be created. For further information see the Installing section of the Editor documentation.

You can create a shortcut to the executable or execute it from your development environment. Artistic Style checks the command line when executed and can open the active document if a calling program provides the capability. Examples and further information are in the Integration section of the Editor documentation.

To uninstall, simply remove the executable folder and the configuration file. There will be no residual files or registry entries.

Executable Downloads

All downloads use Artistic Style 1.23 as the indenting and formatting engine.

Single File Executable

In most cases, the following download will be the best. It is a single file executable that can be used to format source documents. Unless you want to modify the Artistic Style source code, this is the file to get. The documentation is included with the download.

AStyleWin_1.3.zip

Single file executable.

Artistic Style DLL

The following download contains an executable with an Artistic Style dll. A dll version of Artistic Style is provided so you can modify Artistic Style and still use Artistic Style for Windows. The executable, AStyleWinD.exe, must be in the same folder as the Artistic Style dll, AStyle.dll, when the program is executed. The documentation is included with the download.

AStyleWinD_1.3.zip

Executable with Artistic Style as a DLL.

Original Command Line Artistic Style

The original command line Artistic Style can be downloaded from the Artistic Style project page. The source code is included and can be compiled as a command line program, a dynamic library, or a static library.
