??Consumer Questions and Answers??
Chimney Cleaning & Inspection
All chimneys should be checked at least once ayear.  Checking for obstruction, creosote build-up, deterioration and overall condition is the best way to insure your chimney will meet you winter venting needs.  Creosote builds up on interior surfaces of your chimney during normal use, and is a by-product of wood burning.  As a general rule of thumb, masonry chimneys serving  open fireplaces or woodstoves should be cleaned after one to two cords of wood is burned.  Even with these guidelines chimneys vary greatly in design and performances, and every chimney should be checked annually.
Video Chimney Inspection
There is no better way to evaluate the condition of your chimney - period.  The video evaluation system , along with an experienced and trained operator, can shed a critical light on the hidden defects, voids, or other dangerous conditions which may be hiding within your chimney.
Chimney Relining
Most masonry chimneys are constructed with an inner liner of clay tiles.  The purpose of his liner is to keep the heat of flue gases inside the chimney so the chimney can't overheat the nearby combustible material, such as the framing  and walls of your house , and and possibly cause a fire.  The liner also keeps products of combustion from seeping through bricks and mortor of your chimney and  leaking into your home.  As you can see, a secure lining system is crucial to the safety and well being of  your home and family. When the original clay tile liner was either never installed, or when the tile lining cracks , crumbles and deteriorates over time.  Water damage, chimney fires, or just age cause the deterioration of your clay liner.  When that happens the National Fire Prevention Association (NFPA) code 211states that it must be replaced with a UL listed chimney liner .
