GRACE: A PERSON ENABLING OUR PERSON
Grace
is the remote cause of our acquiring skills in any musical instruments, in any
games we play, in fulfilling our resolutions, of our personal and deeper
friendship with anyone. The statement may sound rough and crude, but that is a
reality which I am convinced of. In fact, I would further say that it is the
bridge between the structure of life and genuine relationships and experiences.
Behind our monotonous life, there the grace of God is working deep within us,
transforming us to make us better persons and helps us to become a clearer
image of the Divine person.
The
grace of God in our life can never be stippled. It flows wherever it wills.
Spontaneity is the state where Grace is. It is there where structure of any
sort is out-of-place.
When we are in
contact with our SELF – when we get to know ourselves, human structures are not
needed anymore. It looses its importance and glitters. We
do not concern ourselves on too much structures: on how we speak, on how
we relate, on how we present ourselves, etc. We just remain ourselves, and do
not have any outside pressure. Indeed, we become truly free. By being on ourselves, there and then the spontaneity
of our life’s message and our contribution for other persons will exude
brilliantly. We will be able to do what
we are suppose to do as human beings. And that is because of the working of
God’s abiding presence in us.
A truly good artist
is he/she who’s not putting oneself as the center of all and become conscious
of himself/herself. He does not even concern whether his masterpiece will be a
failure or not. He just paints and paints and put all his best into it. And lo,
a beautiful picture comes out. What I mean here is that, this man does his work
with great spontaneity. He does not even
concern himself of
the rules in painting, the painter’s position when painting, how he acts or looks. He is doing his job spontaneously. A student in fine arts is
still conscious in every detail of his
work. He follows the rule bit by bit. But the real artist paints beautifully
spontaneously as if skills and rules are himself.
I even observe that
most of my reflections in my practical and spiritual life do not come during
our meditation time or during Mass. Mostly, they just pop up just after games,
when I’m tired thinking of any schedules or of the next activity and just sit
there relaxed. Or they even come in my mind during my going up and down the staircase, or when we have a chance
to go to a certain place, or a striking words or event I heard and encountered.
What I mean here is, I would only encounter these learning experience in my
life, in great intensity and even convincingly, when I am in the state of
spontaneity.
