Here I am supposed to be getting ready for Japan, but I'm just sitting here doing nothing but getting this web page ready. Let see, must worry about traveller's cheques, packing (THAT'll be a miracle if I can fit everything), housing (I STILL don't know where I'll be living, supposed to be in a host family. Hopefully NOT a cardbard shack in the park). School stuff, namely Thursday exam and this ridicously stupid co-op report when I have nothing to say and not allowed to say the stuff I wanna say.

Anyways, back to preparing. Cuz I'm not sure the kind of family I'm staying with, I can only bring generic Canadian stuff. ie. ice wine, maple crap stuff. U know, the maple syrup, the maple cookies etc etc, stuff I never even eat b4 and I live in Canada!

Only 12 more days b4 I leave and I feel so unprepared!

Thanks christine, jana, yen and ahn for the party at jana's house! it was lots of fun catching up with u guys and telling u the rest of the crazy stories i usually have for u. i'll try to have some more when i come back from japan!

and thanks to jack, phil, glen and biogeek, uh, i mean jeff. thanks for coming out for dinner and sharing good drunken stories while jc was in japan and glen in switzerland. i must make a mental note to NOT do what jc did in japan eating 8 tacos and going to the hospital. and glen, i don't think i'll ever get drunk enuf to go dig a hole under a barbed wire like your friend did! but i'll try to see if i can get any creative drunken stories when i come back.

Thanks to Jenny! it was fun hanging out with u at banana jaks and i love the meroko and takuto's keychains in memory of our cosplay this year at edmonton. we dressed as shinigami's from the anime full moon wo sagashite! we got attention, to say the least.

Well people, this is it. I will be leaving Calgary in 36 hours to party hard, er, i mean, to study. -_- Finally finished packing with plenty of annoyance and the funny thing is, i'm not feeling excited or nervous. It's more of a "meh" feeling for me rite now. Once I arrive in Japan (safely I hope), i hope to do another update of what's the area like, any cool stuff i'm seeing, etc. Thanks for supporting me all this time! Bye!

ok, it's 10:50 pm japan time yet it's like 8 am calgary and i haven't slept at all on the airplane. and i know it's time for beddy bye but i just can't make myself go to bed. anyhoo, leaving from calgary was pretty tough, i never thought i would break down several times! it was almost to the point i wanted to stay in calgary. but things changed once i left vancouver, and i was looking a bit forward to this trip in japan. the plane ride was very long, thanks to a stupid delay at the vancouver airport, a 10.5 plane hour ride then waiting at the airport for the bus to take me to the university city....-_- altogether, traveling time = 16 hrs or so.

as soon as i get off, i couldn't figure out how to use the phones! green phones, orange phones, gray phones. i had to ask the university people, buy a phone card, and by the time i could make a call, it was 10 min later. then the escalators. if we wanna go down, we go on the right side? NO! it's on the left side and i almost fell off the escalator trying to go down when it was going up!

August 27, 2003 well, another day gone. already, i started getting some annoyance over the payment issue. because i have to pay for my fees right away by tomorrow, i had to get a student loan because i can't use my bank money order until my bank account opens. sooo... it was very complicated , i had to run up and down the building and to other buildings to complete the payment. because i was so stressed, i didn't really need to eat anything the whole day.

so i went along with a student club to do some mini fireworks by the river. it was pretty fun with the sparklers with some japanese students and some of the international students. if i finish my roll early or ask one of the students to send the pic from the digital camera, i'll have to upload it on this site. and then i was shown some of the city's downtown. i would pay more attention if i wasn't so sleepy when walking back to the dorms. yes, i still live in temp dorm, and i don't know how to get around with bus. and i'm NOT gonna walk alone by myself at nite if i was pointed in the rite directions. but they were very nice to walk me back to the dorm though it took like 45 min or so. anyways, tomorrow i'll be going to osaka and kyoto on friday so that should be fun!

i also saw something i didn't expect to see. gigiant cicada's around the area making these huge noisy sounds and they're GIANT. they're like 5 inches or so. and i thought bees were bad enuf but these things are nasty! debating if i need a picture of those ugly things.

well, got info about my homestay family and that it'll still be in the same city as the university. i wouldn't mind having it in osaka so i can be closer to the big city. the family is about a 20 min bike ride from the campus but not too sure if i have to buy one or borrow one. but that'll be decided when i meet them on sunday.< the only bad thing is that i requested for a non smoking family yet i got a smoking family.

today i went to osaka with the other international students and we were paired off with japanese students. between my group of 5, we had 3 japanese chicks who took us to osaka. it's a good thing they showed us how to use the trains because i was so damn confused! there were so many different lines to get on and to get off that i'm still overwhelmed! but we went down to umeda downtown area and shinsaibashi to see the buildings of the osaka's baseball team, hanshin tigers. then for some takoyaki's , fried octopus dumplings, at this famous stand that we actually had to wait in line and to order. i took pics but my camera is not digital til i get one or til my friend can send the pics from her cam to my pc. hopefully that'll be on saturday where i can produce some pics for u.

just for your info, i'll be going to the school tomorrow to hopefully get the pics scanned along with my friends e-mailing the pics. so i'll type up my entries for yesterday, then tomorrow i'm gonna edit this part to include pics within the text.

Yesterday, i went to kyoto with the international students and with japanese students as guides. the group was pretty small, 3 or 4. but with 3 people, 2 chicks including me and a guy, we ended up with 3 japanese guys as guides. ha ha, my guy friend was bitching about his bad luck, he wanted 3 hot japanese girls and i wanted japanese guys and i got it! so they took us to kiyomizudera, one of the most famous temples in kyoto. let see, the history is that was built in 798 and had reconstructions from 1633. it's a famous school to study buddhism. the walk was pretty harsh, it was at least 10 min going uphill in the hot and humid weather that i was sweating buckets before i reached the top. along the way is Teapot Lane where there were lots of shops selling souvenirs of sweets, fans, and assorted crafts. b4 entering the temple, they have a little well for you to rinse your hands. then in the entrance, they had 2 metal monk's staffs for u to try lifting. the little one was ok but this large one, it was like over 9 feet tall and hardly anybody could lift it! the area had vendors selling good luck charms for health, luck, easy birth, success. i ended up with a luck/success charm. then did the bamboo shaking fortune stall. u shake this bamboo box til a bamboo stick pokes out of the opening. i ended up with small luck, how i will be loved and that i better reconsider going on a trip cuz of possible dangers. too late! i'm already here! then i did a bit of praying where you toss a coin and then you jangle the red and white cord around before praying. next to that, there was this rock sticking out of the ground. apparently, if you walk with your eyes closed to the next rock about 15 metres away, you'll have a lasting relationship. but if u miss the rock, well there goes your relationship! was gonna try but too many people, didn't wanna go smacking into people and the stands!

there was a little waterfall where you took their metal cups on a pole and stick it out to fill it up. the point is that it's supposed to heal you. the tourguide guys were goofy and were actually ready to push each other into the water! but hell, i think they're crazy so it's good.

after dinner, did bowling. man do i suck! good thing i was paired with the guys that could play well so my team didn't lose!
