Week 2
It was a clash of the titans on the muddy tundra of Grosvenor Elementary Wednesday night when the ever cheerful Superfriends met up with the partying juggernaut Baby Got Backspin. Last year's game was a one sided affair that went the Superfriends way and those who's been on the receiving end wanted a little revenge. Ever wondered what trying to kick a bal and then run in pig slop might feel like? Well, those of you lucky enough to play on Dirt Field A got a chance to experience the good life. BTW, can we get someone to pay us some cash to sponsor the fields... I think it'd be a lot better if it were called "Scott's Turf Builder with Lawn Fungus Fertilizer Field". Somebody needs to make this happen. Back to the recap.
With field conditions unfit for most, the kickballers went out there. Early runs were posted on the board by the Superfriends but fantastic plays were made in the field for Baby Got Backspin by Matt B and ABJ (sorry Aaron, I think we're just going to make you three initials, kind of like LBJ except you won't take us to fight some nice communist Asian folks right?). Innings 2 through 4 were a blur as Baby Got Backspin raised the bar for everyone else by bringing and drinking most of three and a half cases of beer. Props in this field go to Aaron for bringing back the team cooler and L Dogg for perfecting the beer purse idea. One playing highlight however was seeing Chris make a diving catch and coming up with one side of his body covered in mud.
In the top of the fifth, Baby Got Backspin broke out with Trixie, LDogg, ABJ, Stub Daddy, Wendy and Chris taking it to Superfriends at kick (hey, if at bat works for baseball, why not at kick for us?). The game was tied up when ABJ sprinted from second to home showing lightning speed. When asked for a quote, ABJ said "Man my beer was getting warm".
Taking the plate in the bottom of the fifth, the Superfriends used the perfect mud strategy bunting their way aboard. With first and third occupied and one out (due to a stellar catch by Trixie) Baby Got Backspin was scared their hard work to get back in the game was going to slip through their mud covered palms. Lucky for them a pop up to Stub Daddy and a heroic running catch from right center field on a towering pop fly by Matt B ended the Superfriends chances (making them thoroughly bitter, I know you're surprised) preserving the tie.
This recap wasn't as weird as George's (does anyone else besides me thing they should use him in a live action Lucky Charms commercial? I can see him now on the set very drunk yelling "Give me back my purple horseshoes you bastards!") or as bitter as Chris "Pepe Le Pew" Bocquet but I think it's strange enough to belong on "Whatever we're calling this newsletter this week" newsletter. Special thanks to guest referee K.I.T.T. from Knight Rider fame. What? You didn't see a car referee our game? He had a few beers himself and had to be helped off the field by Michael and Devon (you think I'm crazy? Who came up with the idea to make a show about a talking car? It was on TV four years folks, the 80's had some great stuff). Final Score Superfriends 3, Baby Got Backspin 3.
