| Mustered in Atlanta, May of 1861, the Sixth Georgia was the first unit to offer its services to the Confederate Government for three years. Comprised of ten companies, the Sixth enlisted men from, Baker, Butts, Crawford, Dade, Houston, Mitchell, Oglethorpe, Taylor and Twiggs counties. The names of the Companies are as follows: Company A- Sidney Brown Infantry Captain William M. Arnold Company B- Lookout Dragoons Captain John H. Hannah Company C- Beauregard Volunteers Captain Charles D. Anderson Company D- Butler Volunteers Captain James M. Newton Company E- Crawford Grays Captain Wilde C. Cleveland Company F- Mitchell Independents Captain Edward H. Shackleford Company G- Butler Vanguards Captain John T. Griffin Company H- Baker Fire Eaters Captain Alfred H.
