I started sailing with friends on lake Geneva when I was
about fifteen, we used to sail 470´s up to Fireballs, it was fun,
wet and sometimes cold. Later, travelling and living in different countries,
I was able to sail in Mexico(Valle de Bravo), Trinidad (racing to Grenada
in 1975), Honduras (The Bay Islands), Panama and Brazil (from Parati, the
base of the known Amyr
Klink . I owned a 32 footer in Panama, the Pamela
1 (scanned picture, the Pamela 1 in the Pearl Islands, near San José
island).
The Pamela 1 is a Islander 32 from 1964, so it is an
early Islander 32 not to be confused with the MK II model. The previous
owner had installed a new Yanmar 2GM and it is a good engine for the boat.
I had new sails made (see pictures on the bottom of the page), and I installed
a jib furling system from Profurl. After some paint and varnish work plus
some good old TLC, the Pamela 1 was in a nice shape for her age, pity I
had to sell and leave Panama. For more information on Islander boats, check
here.
