On the second morning we went for a forest walk, near Acajatuba on the Rio Negro. There after some sensible instructions, such as do not eat anything you dont know... We went into the jungle, where Edi explained things about essence trees, animals and the latex tree, which was the tree that was exploited during years before Malaysian latex was discovered, and prosperity ended in Manaus. We did not see many animals as we were probably too noisy but the plants and greenery were fascinating.
Below are some drying palm leaves that will be used in covering roofs.
The roots of the acai tree, a palm-like tree that gives tiny black fruits used for juices and ice cream.
There was so many things to see and register that I let you peer through some of the forest best colors.
The sun is shining through the greenery.

And then we find the latex tree (below left). Walmir cut the bark with his machete and the white rubber juice comes out.

Out of the forest we stop by a small village shop. Where Franciano was waiting to say hello. They had some nice flowers in the "garden".

Ok, Ok, I'll admit that I cheated here.... The last picture is an orchid that was on our balcony in Sao Paulo......
Back at the hotel, we had the visit of group of a dozen monkeys that even the staff did not know and thought they might be slightly agressive. They got their load of bananas and continued their travel in the jungle, we actually saw them later some 300 yards away, jumping from tree to tree, young ones clutched to their mothers as in the photo below.

Last picture of the day, the wind increased and the storm was close by, time to climb down from the observation tower. Later in the evening was the bull dance festival that refers to some folklorical event in a big island called Parintins.
The next day was another excurtion to Acajatuba and lake Ubim on the way back. When we were boarding our canoe, an hydroplane came to fetch some other tourists that had to fly back that same day.
So we go down the Ariau river once again to follow on the Rio Negro and then we arrive at Acajatuba, the closest real village with church, school, shops, cafe and even the Ministry of Health's boat.

Cannot resist the flowers that were shining in the sun.

Edi hiding in the shade! But the clouds are suddenly much closer, time to get back!
