Pilgrimage to World Youth Day in Cologne, August 2006.

Journal of My Experiences
Tuesday, August 9th, 2005. Flight

We left Guelph around 2:30pm on Tuesday to arrive at the airport by 4pm.  We were quite early, and one of the first groups from our Diocesan Pilgrimage to arrive.  We camped out near the Air France booth until the rest arrived.  We checked in for our flight and went through security, a relatively easy task. (I was about to deck one pilgrim who joked afterwards they missed one of the grenades in my pocket You DO NOT joke like that in the airport.    I was surprised to see Craig Cruishank, a fellow seminarian, who was on the same flight as us, travelling to World Youth Day with a group from Peterborough.  We spoke briefly of the sad news of a third seminarian that may not be returning in the fall.

On the plane, Providence had me first sitting with Marc from Cambridge, but once we were in the air, everyone traded places like crazy.  I ended up sitting with three girls from St. Agathas parish.  For much of the ride, there was turbulence and we were not allowed to stand up.  Once we were allowed out of our seats, there was a ridiculous line up for the bathroom.  After the meal, which was relatively good for plane food, I tried to sleep.  I dont remember how successful it was, but I think I got about 3 or 4 hours.  They gave us a blindfold and earplugs, which worked quite well.  We were happy to land in Paris at about 8:30 that morning

Going through customs was once again very easy.  All that was required was to hand in a card giving our address and the purpose of our trip.  Things were very smooth.   We gathered at the bus and met our tour guide.
