It is possible to use JP1 to add additional commands to your JP1 compatible remote that weren’t originally programmed into it. In other words, if the device’s original remote – aka Original Equipment Manufacturer’s (OEM) remote - has some functions (i.e. Eject for your VCR) that aren’t on your JP1 compatible remote, you can add them. It is even possible that there are some functions that your device supports are aren’t even on the OEM remote. The trick is figuring out what “commands” to send for each of the new functions.
In JP1 terminology, an “advanced code” (also called an EFC) is a three digit code that is used to tell your JP1 compatible remote what signal to send out. In order to add new functions to your JP1 compatible remote, you need to determine what advanced code is associated with it.
The easiest way to determine what advanced code is used for a specific function on your device is to go the www.hifi-remote.com website and look in the Advanced Code section. The advanced codes vary depending on the type of device you are controlling (i.e. TV, VCR) and the Setup Code you are using to control your device. In order to add a missing function to your JP1 compatible remote, you should go to the HiFi Remote website and see if there is a list of Advanced Codes for the Setup Code you are using for your specific device. If there is a list available, it will map the three digit codes to the functions they perform.
Were you able to find the function you want to add in a list of Advanced Codes for the Setup Code you
are using at the HiFi Remote website?
No, I was not able to find a list of Advanced Codes at the HiFi Remote website for my Setup Code.
