Assia Levinski
  Assia was born to Leon and Chaja Levinski in the small village of Kazlu-Ruda, Lithuania, 1928. The Levinski family consisted of a rather large extended family that shared all aspects of daily life.

   Her father worked as a lumber dealer while her mom tended to all household and property duties as addition to caring for Assia�s younger brother, Monia. Her grandparents lived on a farm just outside of Marijampole where both of Assia�s parents had attended high school. Education was prized among the some 2,545 Jewish people working as farmers. They produced agricultural and some small industrial products and established

   The German army invaded Lithuania in the summer of 1941. The new regime began to force all Jews to move into isolated ghettos where they endured hardships such as inadequate food and water. Medicine and sanitation were obsolete. At the beginning of  September, 1941, the Levinskis along with other Jews were shoved in mobile squads of destruction and forced to dig enormous ditches. There, Assia and her family were murdered and thrown into the recently dug graves. Assia was 13 years old.
