Archaeology
Much like a historian, an archaeologist reaches back in time to provide possible explanations of the occurence of particular events. Archaeologists, on the other hand, attempt to trace back life over 5,000 years ago-- before the first written records. With the absence of documented notations, archaeologists are limited to the posessions of those who lived long ago to piece together any suggestion of daily life.
