About Joyful Noises

Joyful Noises began as a one-day workshop for teachers in the Rockford, IL area in 1996. The subject of incorporating music and literacy across the curriculum was well received, and the workshop expanded...first to a two-day presentation, then a three-day, and finally a full-week seminar.

Snooky and Lisa were partner teachers in Greenville, SC at the beginning of Joyful Noises. We bonded quickly through our love of kids, good children's music, sense of humor, and passion for teaching. Although we only taught together one year, our shared passion for sharing the joy of music with children and teachers continues. Snooky, a National Board Certified teacher, still teaches in South Carolina; after 15 years in kindergarten she has "graduated" to first grade. Lisa taught 15 years in kindergarten and college early childhood courses in MI, OH and SC and currently resides in Columbus, OH.

Our work together has taken us to national, state and regional conferences as well as through the process of writing our first book together...
Joyful Noises: Music That Reaches and Teaches. Our book provides a plethora of activities to accompany quality children's songs by top-notch musicians. It offers the "why" as well as the "hot-tos" for all kinds of adults working with young children.

IBooks are $20 (postage included)--paperback with tabs, spiral-bound.

Music Tip of the Week:

Even the youngest children can make their own "sandpaper blocks" by using a plastic knife to cut a segment of foam pool noodle. Turn the segment on its end and cut it in half lengthwise, and VOILA! A durable, child-friendly rhythm instrument!
