Tara was born in Montreal on September 7, 1973. She lived there for a few years and then moved to Toronto. Her parents divorced when she was five. Because of that, she spent the next twelve years or so bouncing from one parent to the other. Between the ages of five and seventeen Tara lived in four different cities in nine different houses. She began taking classical voice lessons when she was twelve and found an inspiring teacher when she moved to Halifax.. By the time Tara hit university age, she'd decided that she would study music in hopes of becoming an opera singer. Tara received a scholarship to Dalhousie University and did a year of the music program there. Tara  realized that although she loved singing, she didn�t want to spend every minute of my life living and breathing opera. Tara returned to school a year later at Concordia University to study theatre. By the time she was in her second year, she was getting roles in theatre and films. Tara was missing a lot of classes, so  the university said to pick to either pick to stay, or to work. She chose work. She stayed in Montreal for 2 years, but she then decided to move to Toronto because of the expanding film industry. After 6 months, she picked up a newspaper and saw an add for a band looking for a singer.  She called, and talked to Tony. She agreed to meet at the joydrop rehersal space, and as she says 'The rest is history.'
