In July and August of 1999, my 2 sisters and I traveled to
Israel for a wonderful 6 weeks of mostly volunteer work. This
picture of Jerusalem is taken from the east side of the old city,
upon the Mount of Olives looking to the west at the Golden Gate
(where Jesus will one day re-enter the city). To the left and
slightly above the Golden Gate is "the Muslim Dome of the
Rock" which is built on the exact place where it is said the
"Second Temple" once stood. Just beyond and slightly to
the left of the Dome of the Rock is the "Western" or
"Wailing" wall, which is the exposed surface of the
wall that surrounded the Temple.
This is the Western Wall, where all Jews (and many Christians) come to pray. This wall, of the City is probably the exact same stones that saw Jesus when He walked here in a body of flesh and blood.
It was interesting to note that the custom is to write a tiny note (to God, assume), roll it up small and stick it in the crevices of the rocks. Also interesting here was the fact that the men and the women do not pray together. The men's (half) of the wall is closer to where it is said the "Second Temple" built. (Does this surprise us?......nawh!)
You can see the Mount of Olives which is right under the word
"July" in the Picture above.
I don't think this needs much more explination. He is NOT there! He IS Risen! and HE IS LORD! I'm sure! I was inside and saw for myself.
Oh, I just LOVE Israel. I love the Jewish People. It is with an emotion of Love in my heart that I pray for the Peace of Jerusalem and the Jewish people.
