| Donations Food vs. Cash |
| Its easier to write a check than to go shopping for groceries It is much easier to deliver cash that deliver groceries Cash may be used by the food shelf to purchase food at less that $.20 per pound. Food Shelves may use cash donations to purchase food itemms, which are not received as donations, including food for people with special nmedical needs, such as those with diabetes. Cash donations are sometimes matched by foundations Cash does not spoil, dent or expire. MAKE CHECKS PAYABLE TO JOYCE FOOD SHELF |
| Food Shelves usually give needy families one three-day food supply a month. The three meals a day are made up of the food items you contribute. People need nutritious food. High protein items are very necessary. PROTEIN FOODS: Tuna and canned meats Peanut butter Baked Beans Dried beans and peas Macaroni and cheese (dry or canned) OTHER FOOD NEEDS: Rice Canned fruits and vegetables Soups, canned or dried Instant dried potatoes Fruit Juices Complete pancake mix Spaghetti sauce and pastas Infant Formula Cereal, hot and cold Coffee and Tea MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS: Toilet Tissue Disposable Diapers (Sizes 4 and 5) Dish and Laundry detergents Toothpaste and bar soap Kleenex NOTE: The Health Department does not permit opened boxes, home-canned products, bulged or rusted cans. |
