ROB VAN DAM vs. SABU
Rob Van Dam made his Extreme Championship Wrestling (or ECW, for short) debut on January 5, 1996, at the "House Party" supercard, where he defeated Axl Rotten. "The Arabian Maniac," Sabu, meanwhile, had been a mainstay in ECW ever since it was called "Eastern Championship Wrestling" back in the fall of 1994. On January 27, 1996, at the famed ECW Arena in Philadelphia, PA. The two went toe-to-toe in the first classic of their legendary feud. Sabu won via Disqualification, but he also suffered a broken finger. RVD went to a 30:00 time limit draw with then-ECW Television Champion Too Cold Scorpio on March 30 at the ECW Arena, and the match, although it had no decisive winner, was spectacular, and it was clear that RVD was ready to step up to upper card level.
So, on April 20, 1996, at "Hostile City Showdown," at the ECW Arena, the two faced off. The match was the eigth on the card, and the last one before the main event, which featured Raven defending his ECW Title against Shane Douglas.
