MAJOR LEAGUE WRESTLING (MLW) NEWS
- Several matches have been
announced for the 9/19 WAR GAMES card in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
Current Revolution Pro and XPW World Tag Team Champions Mexico's
Most Wanted (Damien 666 & Halloween) have been booked to
wrestle a dream match vs. Los Maximos (a.k.a. The S.A.T. [Joel
Maximo & Jose Maximo]). Christopher Daniels and Sabu will
battle in a Loser Leaves MLW for 60 Days Match. CM Punk has
signed an open contract and will fight an opponent to be
announced. Meanwhile, Punk's current rival, Raven, will wrestle
Raven's flunky, Nosawa. A Fans Bring the Weapons Match between
Monsta Mack & a mystery partner and The Samoan Island Tribe
(Samu & Ekmo [formerly Jamal of WWE's Three-Minute Warning])
will occur. A J-Cup USA Tournament will occur to crown the
inaugural MLW Junior Heavyweight Champion, with Bracket A
featuring Christopher Daniels vs. Super Dragon and Jimmy Yang vs.
Juventud Guerrera (wearing a mask) and Bracket B showcasing Jerry
Lynn vs. Eddie Colón and Sonjay Dutt vs. Tony Mamaluke. Joe Seanoa (Samoa Joe) will make his
MLW debut against Mike Awesome and will compete on future MLW
shows. The show's main event will feature a War Games Steel Cage
Match between The Extreme Horsemen (Captain: Steve Corino,
CW Anderson, Simon Diamond, & Mystery Man) and The Funkin'
Army (Captain: Terry Funk, The Sandman, "Dr. Death"
Steve Williams, & Mystery Man). The Mystery Man on Funk's team was scheduled to be WWE's
Jerry Lawler, who competed on the most recent MLW show. However,
1Wrestling.com reported a few days ago that Lawler "has been pulled from the 9/19 Major League Wrestling
event in Fort Lauderdale, Florida by World Wrestling
Entertainment. Lawler was scheduled to team with Funk, Sandman,
and Steve Williams against Steve Corino, Simon Diamond, and CW
Anderson in the main event of the show, a two ring, Steel Cage
Wargames match. WWE officials, citing the promotion's national
coverage on The Sunshine Network via Direct TV, removed Lawler
from the event citing the promotion was a "competitor."
Several sources noted the decision was made by Vince McMahon. The
WWE decree was that Lawler would not be allowed to appear on
MLW's TV, which led MLW to the obvious decision that they
couldn't use Lawler on the Fort Lauderdale event. Since Lawler
couldn't appear on any future TV or video footage, it defeated
any purpose of using him at the Wargames event itself. Lawler
appeared on the last two weeks of MLW's show, doing promos and
wrestling Terry Funk. In a promo before the match with Funk, he
stated he was, 'more excited about beating up [Funk], then I am
about Wrestlemania.' MLW's Court Bauer had discussions with WWE's
Jim Ross in an attempt to get Lawler back on the event, but was
unable to get the promotion to change their mind. The WWE
decision caused a last minute scramble to re-edit this coming
Monday's MLW TV show, the last show prior to the event. MLW has
already secured a replacement for Lawler, but likely will not
announce that replacement until the actual event." Michael Shane (w/ Francine Fournier),
The Sinister Minister, Mikey Whipwreck, Bill Alfonso, PJ
Friedman, MANA, and Richard Criado will also be on the show.
Check out MLW.com for more info.
- Sabu has left MLW. He has decided to work for another promotion
on 9/18 instead of MLW and MLW has therefore ceased booking him.
Bill Alfonso, his manager, will continue to work for MLW and will
be on the 9/18 show, as aforementioned.
- MLW Undeerground TV will be
debuting in a new market shortly. It could be yours so stay
tuned!
- In the October 15 Baseball Magazine Sha
and October 17 Weekly Gong Magazine, there will be
extensive coverage of MLW's September 26 RELOAD event from New
York City including 4 color pages in each publication! Also, the
Mexican publication Super
Luchas recently covered the promotion and so did the highly
circulated Japanese magazine Weekly Fights. MLW will also
be featured in a soon-to-be-published Japanese book about
wrestling.
- MLW hopes to begin running shows outsside of Florida in
November.
- PJ Friedman will be featured iin the upcoming CKY DVD.

developmental deal with WWE, check out the EAST COAST INDY
WRESTLING TIDBITS section.
- The Wednesday, 9/17 TNA PPV will featture: a Hair vs. Hair Match
between Raven and Shane Douglas; AJ Styles defending his NWA
World Heavyweight Title vs. one of his greatest rivals ever,
Jerry Lynn; the end of the D'Lo Brown vs. Sonny Siaki feud as

the #1 Contendership to the NWA World Tag Team Titles featuring
America's Most Wanted, 3 Live Krew, Kid Kash & Abyss, and The
New Church; a six-man X Division tag team match featuring
Juventud Guerrera; the TNA return (in the form of a promo) of
Rowdy Roddy Piper; Jeff Jarrett, Michael Shane, Chris Sabin,
Frankie Kazarian, and others will be on the show. Check out
NWATNA.com for more info.
- Vince Russo and Glenn Gilberti (formeerly Disco Inferno) are
apparently responsible for writing most of the content on the
recent NWA-TNA events, with Jeff Jarrett supervising their
booking. Scott D'Amore - who is known as the promoter of Border
City Wrestling in Cananda - has also been contributing ideas
recently.
- GAORA (Channel 302 on Satellitte SkyPerfectTV in Japan) -
which televises AJPW, Michinoku Pro, Toryumon, K-Dojo, GAEA, and
JD Star - is negotiating with NWA-TNA to purchase the rights to
air its program in Japan.
- Former-WCW and current Mexican star VVampiro has shown interest
in working for NWA-TNA. The general concensus is that he will be
brought in sometime in the next few months, but not before that
because many in TNA have doubts about his work ethic, dating back
to his time in WCW.
The below tidbits are courtesy of the Wrestling Observer:
- TNA attempted tto purchase an ad to air
during WWE RAW on Spike TV, but were caught attempting to do so
and the ad request was rejected.
- Juvi showed up in good shape, becausee he is starting to realize
he is screwing up his potential. He did lose some brownie points
with some for showing up late, but this wasn't his fault as his
plane was delayed both weeks. The decision to bring him back or
not will be more of a cost deal than anything else.
- Teddy Hart's backstage reputation wassn't as bad as the
reputation that preceded him, but didn't do himself any favors at
the finish vs Juvi. Juvi used the juvi driver for the big pop and
finish and right after 3 Hart nipped up and started walking
around looking for cheers, instead of selling the finish. People
were amazed by his lack of sense. He also got some negative
feelings, because they thought he was kicking out of too many
moves in the Guerrera match, but that wasn't his fault as the
match was layed out by Guerrera. The feeling was that Hart had
very impressive high spots and was a good worker, but due to the
expense of flying him in from Calgary, it is questionable if he
will be brought back.
- Nosawa's recent appearance in TNA imppressed officials and he
will most likely return to the promotion in the future.
- Antonia Pena is scheduled to come to Nashville on 9/17 to try
and close a talent trading deal.
- Sinn - who debuuted on Pay-Per-View a few
weeks ago - has replaced Brian Lee in the Disciples of the New
Church stable. Lee no-showed a dark match that he was scheduled
for and is therefore rumored to be on his way out from the
promotion.
- There is tremendous enthusiasmm coming from the string of
good shows and a lot of positive business news.
- The contracts being handed out to manny TNA talents on the 8/27
show surprisingly included medical insurance.
- TNA is hopeful to announce a video gaame deal soon. It is
rumored to be with EA Sports. A deal for distribution of TNA
dolls is also rumored to be in the works.
- Jeff Jarrett has received mosttly cheers, but isn't happy
with the noticeable boos he has received on the 8/17 show. The
company said the boos came from the heel section of fans that
hasn't been around in several weeks, but came back because they
thought Raven, who is their favorite, had to win the title this
time. The company was unhappy with them in the past and Bob Ryder
has spoken to them about their reactions. Dave has heard
different versions of what he said, but the company's take is
they set aside seats for the fans and had no problems, but about
6 weeks ago, Ryder told them the company is going in a different
direction with strong face vs heel storylines and that he thought
they should play into it. They complained and stopped coming, but
a few started trickling back and most were back for 8/27.
Jarrett, upset that they were booing him, as well as Harris and
Storm, told Bert Prentice to tell them they weren't welcome at
the shows. Storm was really upset, because he injured his neck,
and they were taunting him as he was being helped backstage.
- Antonia Pena is scheduled to ccome to Nashville on 9/17
to try and close a talent trading deal.
- The TNA Volume 2 theme song CD is avaailable for pre-order on
NWATNA.com. The track listing for the CD is:
