& Jose Maximo) was backstage at last Saturday's ROH show in
Fairfield, CT. Willie is receiving pro wrestling training by his
brothers. Expect him to debut on the indy circuit in the coming
months.
- On Saturday, September 27, Terry Funk will be holding a
wrestling clinic in Rahway, NJ, right before the JAPW show
scheduled for that night. On the show, he'll wrestle Homicide.

- Tomorrow's Union of Independent Professsional Wrestlers show in
Erie, PA will feature several indy and XPW stars. The card so far

COMBAT ZONE WRESTLING (CZW) NEWS
- The Hurricane Kidd's match vs. Ruckus
for the BJPW Junior Heavyweight Title a few weeks ago CZW
Aftermath was H.K. last match in his career. H.K. is getting
married and therefore will not have time to continue wrestling.
- The Messiah, B-Boy, and Nick Berk all wrestle on the 9/6 PCW
Zero Tolerance in Altadena, CA. The Messiah wrestles a dream
match against former-XPW star "The Rock Superstar"
Kaos, while B-Boy and Nick Berk wrestle each other one-on-one. A
source tells me that Kaos and Messiah supposedly aren't on the
same page with each other. Kaos was initially against having to
wrestle Messiah, but he decided to go through with it after
finding out that PCW had already begun promoting the match as
early as a month ago.
- Ric Blade is rumored to have left CZW....again.
- Sonjay Dutt and B-Boy will both make ttheir MLW debuts on the
8/22 Summer Apocalypse show. Dutt wrestles Jimmy Yang, while
B-Boy teams up with Nosawa against The S.A.T.
- There will be a "huge surprise&quuot; on the 8/23 show in
Dover, DE.
- After his recent return, Jonny Storm wwill probably not work for
CZW full-time, but it is pretty likely that he'll make a couple
more appearances on assorted CZW shows in the future.
- B-Boy beat Sonjay Dutt in 17:18 to rettain his APW Internet
Title on the APW-LA 8/16 show in Newhall, CA. B-Boy won the title
earlier on the very same show by beating former-champ James Choi
in 10:12.
- CZW owner John Zandig came to the ringg at the most recent CZW
show (which was two weeks ago) and vacated the Ironman title
because the champion, "Sick" Nick Mondo, is injured to
severely to continue to compete in CZW, at least until he takes a
few months off. He is going to need to get surgery on a few body
parts, including on his hand. A few weeks ago at Tournament of
Death 2, Mondo won three straight death matches to eventually win
the tournament, but in the process, absorbed a disgusting amount
of punishment to the point where his back looked as if it had
experienced damage like that bought by the Hiroshima atomic bomb.
Throughout the night, his body was cut up by barbed-wire, broken
glass, thumb tacks, and more. Next month in Viking Hall, there
will be an Ironman title tournament to crown a new champion,
according to Zandig. I spoke to Zandig a week ago on the phone
and he told me that the match that he and Mondo had in the
quarterfinals of the tournament was one of the most brutal
matches that he (Zandig) has ever been involved in.
- The current card for CZW Respect - whiich is scheduled for 8/23
(Saturday) in Dover, DE - is: Zandig vs. Ian Rotten in an
Explosive Barbed-Wire Wrapped Steel Cage Match; Nate Hatred
defends his BJPW Deathmatch Title vs. Nick Gage in a 200 Light
Tube Death Match; The Backseat Boyz defend their CZW Tag Team
Titles vs. The Broad Street Boozers (Adam Flash/Ian Knoxx) and
Rebel's Army (Greg Matthews/Rockin' Rebel); a dream match pits
Jonny Storm vs. Sonjay Dutt; a Fans Bring the Weapons Match will
occur. For more info, check out CZWWrestling.com.
IWA MID-SOUTH HARDCORE WRESTLING (IWA-MS) NEWS
- Courtesy of IWAMidSouthWrestling.com: "It is with great disappointment that IWA Mid-South Hardcore Wrestling must inform the fans that we will no longer be holding weekly live events at the IWA Arena in Clarksville, Indiana come September 1st. When we say that IWA Mid-South is nothing without the support of the fans, it is the honest truth.
IWA Mid-South celebrated its biggest weekend of 2003 on August 1st and 2nd with the King of the Death Matches tournament, which packed the 2nd and 3rd largest crowds in the history of the venue at 1390 Woerner Avenue since we began holding events there in June of 2002. While the revenue generated during that weekend benefitted the company greatly, and will help enable the promotion to continue into the future, unfortunately we do not have the continued fan support week in and week out to continue holding weekly events at the venue.
A show was scheduled for Friday night, August 15th, which saw a barely double digit number of fans come out to support the product, and the show had to be cancelled as a result. This likely had a great deal to do with the fair going in in Louisville this weekend, but it also comes down to it being very difficult in 2003 to run profitable weekly wrestling events in this region of the country without strong fan support for all of the smaller shows in addition to the bigger events. Ever since moving into the Clarksville building, it has been a financial necessity for the attendance for the regular weekly events to steadily increase, and unfortunately crowds have not been up in recent months as needed. The landlord has, as a result, given us two more weeks to hold events at the location before IWA must say goodbye to the building that we've called home.
Next Saturday night, August 23rd, will be the first show of the IWA's Final Four at 1390 Woerner Avenue, with tickets available at just $8 & $7. We will then hold events on three consecutive days over Labor Day weekend, on Fri/Sat/Sun, August 29th, 30th, and 31st. The event on the 31st will remain the day that we will be shooting a pilot for local television in Louisville, and will also wind up being our farewell show at the IWA Arena. Tickets for the entire Labor Day weekend events are $25 for a weekend pass. We will announce a lineup of wrestlers who will be appearing on these events during the coming days.
This is not the end of IWA Mid-South Hardcore Wrestling-- not by a long shot. We made the decision in early July that the company will continue to promote professional wrestling events well into the future, despite any setbacks we experience along the way, and we still feel the same way. While we may not have the Clarksville venue come September, we will continue to run events at other locations. A return to both Indianapolis as well as the Chicago area are already in the works, and we are exploring several options regarding new venues near Louisville already. We've been giving the wrestling fans of the Mid-South the best damn show we can for almost seven years now, and that's not going to stop.
Mark your calendars, and if at all
possible, come on out and be a part of IWA's Final Four events at
the IWA Arena in Clarksville during the next two weeks. Let's
send this venue out with a bang, much like we did the old House
of Hardcore in Charlestown in early 2002. With your support, we
can give it the farewell it deserves."

Japanese book about wrestling.
- The card for tomorrow (Friday. 8/22) nnight's MLW Summer
Apocalypse show/UndergroundTV taping in St. Petersburg, FL has
potential to be not only the best MLW show of the year, but a
U.S. Indy Wrestling Show of the Year Candidate. It has one of the
best-rounded cards I've seen this year from any U.S. indy
promotion. I highly recommend that anybody who is able to attend
the show does just that: Bounty Match - Extreme Horsemen bounty
hunter Jerry Lawler vs. Terry Funk; Straight Edge Rules - CM Punk
vs. Raven; Spike Match - Sabu vs. Chris Daniels; Young Lions
Challenge 2 - Homicide vs. Jerry Lynn; Falls Count Anywhere - Da
Hit Squad vs. The Samoan Island Tribe; Global Tag Team Crown

NWA - TOTAL NONSTOP ACTION (NWA-TNA) NEWS
- For info about Alexis Laree signing a
developmental deal with WWE, check out the EAST COAST INDY
WRESTLING TIDBITS section.
- The *one cent* NWA-TNA PPV that will bbe available to all iN
Demand customers will feature classic NWA-TNA matches, including
Jeff Jarrett vs. Raven for the NWA World Heavyweight Title,
America's Most Wanted vs. Triple X for the NWA World Tag Team
Titles, and much more. Check out NWATNA.com for more info on the
show.
- The first annual NWA-TNA Super X Cup TTournament will take place
on the Wednesday, 9/3 PPV. The X-Division names already signed
for this one-night event will be announced later this week.
- The dark match
participants for upcoming NWA-TNA Pay-Per-Views are: Masada,
Jacey North and Altar Boy Luke for the 8/20 show and Rudy Boy
Gonzalez and Onyx for the 8/27 show. All of these wrestlers -
with the exception of Luke - are best known for their work in NWA
Wildside. Luke occasionally works for NWA Wildside, too, but he's
best known for his work in XPW.
- WWE is rumored to have interest in piccking up former-ECW and
current NWA-TNA star Kid Kash. Apparently, the only factor that
has them slightly unconfortable in this new acquisition is Kash's
rumored negative backstage attitude.
- Former-WWE wrestler Bull Buchanan receently worked an NWA-TNA
dark match and was very unhappy after learning that he wouldn't
be paid for the match he worked, nor would his transportation
costs being covered (as per TNA's policy).
- Goldylockks is apparently a prima
donna backstage and hasn't been booked lately by TNA because of
an attitude problem.
NWA - WILDSIDE (NWA WILDSIDE/NWA-WS) NEWS
- I spoke to up-and-coming indy wrestler
Icarus (who made his NWA-WS debut on the 8/15 show vs. Shawn
Tempers) and he said that he will work for them about once per
week from now on. Don't expect him to be working with Altar Boy
Luke anytime soon, though, because those two have had lots of
legitimate heat each other for more than a year now.
- As mentioned directly above, Masada, JJacey North, Altar Boy
Luke, Rudy Boy Gonzalez, and Onyx will work dark matches on
upcoming NWA-TNA Pay-Per-Views.
- Gabriel of the Lost Boyz suffered a shhoulder injury on the 7/12
Athens, GA show when he was on the receiving end of a charging
double knee attack by his former-tag team partner, Azrael.
Rainman, Murder One and Slim J will appear on the 8/29 NWA-WS
show being held in conjunction with the DragonCon Convention.
- Justice (Abyss) returns to NWA-WS on 99/6 (the NWA-WS fourth
anniversary show) and will wrestle Iceberg Slim
- This news - which occurred after the 88/12 NWA-WS show in
Athens, GA - is courtesy of Larry Goodman of NWA-Wildside.com:
"Word apparently got back to the dressing room that Jordan
was going to leave without paying in full. A column of wrestlers
marched out to the boxoffice with Michaels in the lead. A heated
argument between Michaels and Jordan ensued. The locker room
presented a united front. Angry members of the Wildside crew were
milling around, letting Jordan know that they didnt
appreciate putting their bodies on the line for free. Bailey
demanded that Jordan give them their fn money. Foster tried
to step in on Jordans behalf. Good Lord, the beating he
would have taken had he been so stupid as to push the issue. At
this point, the first squad car of Athens-Clarke County police
arrived on the scene. Bill Behrens and Jordan each told their
versions of their verbal agreement to the cops. The police told
the Wildside crew and their supporters to clear out. Police gave
Wildside permission to remove their possessions from the building
(the ring and sound system). A member of the Wildside crew who
shall remain nameless got in a parting shot at Jordan by telling
him his balls were dry and he needed Jordan to lick them. There
were a total of seven squad cars at the building before it was
over.
"Behrens said that the agreement
was the same as for the first Arena show: a guaranteed flat fee
plus a 50/50 on any other profits from the gate receipts, with
the proceeds from concessions going to Athens Arena. Behrens
stated that Jordan overspent without his approval and then only
wanted to pay half of the agreed upon guarantee. Behrens said
that Jordan later paid some of the individual wrestlers. They in
turn, returned most of that money to Behrens, so that the total
wound up being within $40 of the guarantee. Behren also said that
some of Jordans friends apologized to him after it was
over. Behrens posted a thank you to his crew on the Wildside
message board and said that all of the workers would be paid.
Behrens said there would be no more Wildside shows at Athens
Arena, making it the fourth Athens area venue that the promotion
has tried and abandoned.
"When reached for comment, Jordan characterized the events
of last night as an unfortunate situation. Jordan
stated that the agreement was for a 50/50 split on the boxoffice
with no guarantee. He stated that he met with Behrens after the
show they split the profits after expenses. Jordan claimed that
Behrens came up with the guarantee after the fact. Jordan
maintained that he lost money on both shows and there was no way
he would agree to a guarantee when he was losing money. Jordan
confirmed that he paid some of the wrestlers out of his own
pocket because he didnt think they should have to suffer
and reiterated that he did not owe that money to Wildside."
According to Goodman, the 8/12 Athens, GA show won't be available on video tape because of technical difficulties with the taping.
RING OF HONOR (ROH) NEWS
- For info about Alexis Laree signing a
developmental deal with WWE, check out the EAST COAST INDY

strip Red & AJ Styles of the ROH World Tag Team Titles.
Therefore, on 9/20 in Philly the first-ever Tag Team Gauntlet

to ROHWrestling.com, "A gauntlet series will begin with a
straight tag match. The winner will immediately wrestle the next
entry in a straight tag match. A series of consecutive straight

- The first round matches for the Field of Honor Tournament on
the 9/6 Boston, MA show are: Colt Cabana vs. Jimmy Rave, BJ
Whitmer vs. Dan Maff, Matt Stryker vs. John Walters, and Xavier
vs. Chris Sabin.
- Dan Maff's injury at last Saturday's FFairfield, CT show came
when Low Ki delivered a slingshot corkscrew enziguri kick to him.
After that move, he apparently blacked out and after the show,
was taken to a nearby hospital before being released after
receiving a precautionary x-ray. He still has a sore neck, but is
thinking clearly. Steve Corino, meanwhile, also was injured on
the 8/16 show and suffered two black eyes from Homicide's
headbutts, received eight stitches to close the wound on his arm,
and suffered a ruptured eardrum in his left ear and unfortunately
it is said that he may never receive full hearing back in that
ear.
- The location of the 9/6 show has been changed from Cambridge,
MA to Wakefield, MA. Directions and details about the new venue
and the show scheduled can be found on ROHWrestling.com.
- According to several sources, WWE writting team members David
Lagana and Ed Koskey were in attendance watching the ROH event in
Fairfield, CT this past weekend incognito in the crowd. It will
be interesting to see if any ROH intellectual properties begin to
show up on WWE television.
- The Briscoe Brothers (Jay & Mark BBriscoe) will return to
ROH full-time starting on 9/6 in Boston, MA. On that show, Mark
wrestles Low Ki and Jay will participate in a Four Corners
Survival Match also featuring Samoa Joe, AJ Styles, and Homicide.
The Briscoes will return to the tag team ranks on 9/20 in Philly.
- Jimmy Jacobs and Alex Shelley have beeen added to appear on the
9/20 Philly show.
- ROH is rumored to enter a new market bbeginning in October.
- Bryan "American Dragon" Daniielson is rumored to
return to ROH this Fall.
- A statement by Low Ki has been posted on the ROHWrestling.com
Message Forum:
"An unfortunate series of incidents
happened at last Saturday Night's ROH show in Fairfield,
Connecticut, a series of incidents for which I owe an apology. I
was scheduled to work the last match of the night with my best
friend Dan Maff.
We both like to work a strong style, especially for the demanding
ROH audience. For many reasons, on Saturday Night, everyone in
ROH was determined to put on a solid show. One of those reasons
was because the crowd was less than expected, and we all wanted
to make a great impression in this new market for ROH, so the
next time we came back everyone in attendance would bring a
friend to see this awesome promotion put on a great show. In the
early stages of this, the last match of the night, I hit Dan Maff
with an errant kick which knocked him for a loop. There was no
way to continue the match. He was out. It was my fault. I have no
excuse for what happened next.
Outside the ring, I hit ROH cameraman Doug Gentry. I was so upset
about what had just happened and was not in full control of my
actions. I was out of line, and without sounding corny, I broke
the code. The code of ROH, the code of this industry, and the
code of this very professional and proud locker room.
I offer no excuses for my actions, as they were inexcusable. I
only offer an apology, and wish there was a way for me to express
just how sorry I am for my unprofessional display. I hope in
future I will have the opportunity to be a better representative
of the company and of this business."
