The Eric Kulas/Mass Transit Incident

On November 23, 1996, ECW traveled to Revere, MASS for a house show. One of the matches on the card pitted Axl Rotten and D-Von Dudley against The Gangstas, comprised of Mustafa Saed and New Jack. Axl no-showed the show, forcing Paul Heyman to find a replacement. He found a local independent wrestler named Eric Kulas. The match began, and it wasn't long before Dudley and Mustafa were brawling with eachother throughout the building, leaving the 17-year old Mass Transit alone with a four homicides:"The Original Gangsta," New Jack. This is when it all happened.

As the kid was laying in a huge pool of his own blood, most of the ECW fans in the audience began a "YOU FAT FUCK!" chant. The few that weren't participating in the chant left the arena in protest. After the show, Heyman tried to look on the bright side by noting that the kid had gotten his ECW "initiation." That does remain somewhat questionable, though, as Kulas has not wrestled since (not just in ECW, but anywhere).

Then comes one of the worst parts of it all: the whole incident was caught on tape. Not on a regular television camera, but by a handheld camcorder. A few weeks after the incident, as the tape was about to go through the processes and become an official ECW Commercial Home Video,
