CAREER HIGHLIGHTS/HISTORY
A Childhood Wrestling Fan:
- Born on 5/29/73 as the second of first of two
children...Moved to Pennsylvania in 1979...First saw pro
wrestling after going to say goodnight to parents, and
seeing Masa Saito & Mr. Fuji vs. Rick Martel &
Tony Garea...His mother was a fan but his dad wasn't very
interested in it...Regularly watched Southwest
Championship Wrestling on USA and bought wrestling
magazines across the street from a local shop...In the
Perkiomen Valley, PA school district, was a very good
student early, but soon became so obsessed w/ pro
wrestling that his grades went down, especially in
English and grammar (was very good in history and math,
though)...Had several friends, but was never the coolest
kid in class...Played basketball and baseball (as second
baseman)...Worked at a "McDonald's, a CVS store, and
a pizza restaurant and used the income to regularly
attend wrestling shows at the Philadelphia Civic
Center...After graduating high school, thought of
becoming a chiropractor (like his grandfather,
great-grandfather, great uncle, and others), but never
really enjoyed it...Studied at Delaware Valley Community
College in 1992, but dropped out after about a year...
Pro Wrestling Training/Early Career:
- At the Silo nightclub in Reading, PA, was at a
performance by a band called Great White, and saw a
poster for an upcoming indy show and, in the corner of
the ad, a nearby wrestling school w/ a phone number for
it. He wrote down the number and didn't wait long to call
up the "Dungeon School of Professional
Wrestling," making an appointment...Ran by Mark and
Troy West, one would pay $3,000 up top and would then be
guided and trained until a professional entry into the
business of possible...As a 6'2", 172 lb. kid, tried
out against "The Cremator," who was about
6'4", 260 lb...First bump taken was a shoulder
tanckle...Began training with King Kaluha, Tom Brandi,
and the Wests, and regularly worked w/ Tom's cousin, Russ
Money...Debuted in Pennsylvania Championship Wrestling
(ran by Blaine DeSantis and booked by Jimmy Deo) on
4/6/95, teaming w/ Bad Boy against Mark & Troy West
at the Silo Nightclub...Worked for Mario Svoldi, going up
against Jimmy Deo and then-NJPW superstar Osamu
Nishimura...
Learning From Legends in the WWF:
- In 7/95, used DeSantis' connections to get involved in
the WWF (now WWE), where he drove Jeff Jarrett and Tom
Pritchard, quickly becoming friends w/ both; Learned much
from both of them, especially about psychology...Began
working as a heel in Jim Kettner's East Coast Wrestling
Association...Began regularly teaming w/ Lance (Simon)
Diamond, the two winning the ECWA World Tag Team Titles
twice together...Again began working w/ WWF, where he
developed a friendship w/ Jim Cornette...Made WWF debut
against Tom Brandi in Hershey Park Arena in front of
10,000 people; During the match, was shocked to see
ECW'ers sitting in the audience like Tommy Dreamer and
Taz (this was because he was wrestling right before the
RAW where the ECW wrestlers were invited to wrestle at
[due to so many WWF'ers being on a tour in Germany]);
Match was very good, as Bruce Pritchard and Cornette
praised Corino's efforts...The next night in State
College, PA, was given the job of being a fan that Crush
beat up; Later that night, was congratulated by Shawn
Michaels, Savio Vega, P.J. Walker (Justin Credible), and
Jack Brisco, who gave him an added bonus of $200 courtesy
of Vince McMahon, himself...
Personal Life:
- Had first son, Colby, in 8/96...Married girlfriend
Nicole, who hadn't been a big supporter of his career, on
6/14/97...
Various Indy Work:
- Worked in the United States Wrestling Association (booked
by Dutch Mantel) against men like Jamie Dundee and Wolfie
D (of PG-13)...USWA soon folded, and Mantel began booking
Puerto Rico's World Wrestling Council, which was where
Corino went and worked against men like Sean Morley (Val
Venis)...Worked for several promotions over the next
year, including the NWA, WWC, IWF (formerly ACW), PWA,
and SCW...On 10/24/ at the NWA 50th Anniversary Show in
Cherry Hill, NJ, teamed w/ Lance Diamond, Rik Ratchet,
& Doug Gilbert to defeat Stevie Richards, Dead Man
Walking, & The Pitbulls in a Steel Cage Match...
WWF Developmental Training:
- In October '98, joined the WWF's developmental training
camp run by Dory Funk, Jr. and Tom Pritchard; Trained w/
Andrew Martin ( Test), Christopher Daniels, Devon Storm
(Crowbar), Kurt Angle, Shawn Stasiak, and "Dr.
Death" Steve Williams...He, Daniels, and Storm
didn't receive contracts, so after a few weeks of working
WWF undercard matches, Corino left the WWF...Began using
an anti-hardcore wrestling" persona on the indy
scene...
ECW Comes Calling:
- ECW's Nova soon informed him of a possible opening for
him in ECW...Debuted on 12/19/98 at the ECW Arena in
Philadelphia, PA against Nova; After the match, ECW Owner
Paul E. Heyman told him he liked the match, and that
Corino reminded him of a young Eddie Gilbert, one of
Corino's wrestling idols...Began regularly working
against Chris Chetti...Was scheduled to feud w/ Taz and
then Tommy Dreamer, but those plans fell apart...Managed
Rhino and Yoshihiro Tajiri for awhile, using the
anti-hardcore wrestling persona that he used while in the
indies...Lost to Chris Chetti at House Party '99...Was
pinned by Francine at HeatWave '99 in a fluke...Lost to
Balls Mahoney at Living Dangerously '99...Along w/ Rhino,
lost a Tag Team Title shot against Raven & Tommy
Dreamer at Anarcy Rulz '99 (9/19/99)...Lost to Dusty
Rhodes in a bloody "Bullrope Match" at Living
Dangerously '00...Defeated Dusty at CyberSlam
'00...Divorced wife Nicole in 2/00...Lost to Yoshihiro
Tajiri at Hardcore Heaven '00...Lost to Jerry Lynn at
HeatWave '00...Defeated CW Anderson in a #1 World Title
Contendership Match at Anarchy Rulz '00...Won the ECW
World Heavyweight Title at November To Remember on
11/5/00 by pinning Justin Credible in a "Double
Jeopardy Match" (which also included Jerry Lynn and
The Sandman)...Retained ECW Title from Credible and
Sandman at Holiday Hell '00...Retained ECW Title from
Credible and Lynn at Massarcre on 34th Street...Lost the
ECW Title to Sandman at Guilty As Charged on 1/5/01 in a
match that also featured Credible...Left ECW inearly '01
when the company went bankrupt...
Leaving ECW For The Indies:
- Began working for various indy promotions, including
Dusty Rhode's TCW and the NWA...4/24/01: defeated
champion Mike Rapada to win the NWA World Heavyweight
Title...In 10/01, Corino announced his plans to retire
from the ring later in the year, but nothing ever came of
that, as he soon returned to the ring...

Wrestling "Big Dick Dudley Memorial Brawl"
(6/8/02; Franklin Square, NY): In the main event of the
show, which was in memory of the late Big Dick Dudley
(who died 5/16/02): Balls Mahoney (C) pins Corino to

6/15/02 in Philadelphia, PA, Major League Wrestling (MLW,
for short) presented their debut show, which was
entitled, "Genesis." It featured a one-night,
eight-man, single-elimination tournament to crown the
inaugural MLW World Heavyweight Champion. Corino was one
of those eight participants, but in his first round
match, he lost to another former-ECW World Heavyweight
Champion, that being "The Franchise" Shane
Douglas, meaning that Corino had been eliminated from the
tournament. Douglas would eventually go on to win the
tournament and the title (albeit controversially)...JAPW
Summer Shore Series (6/22/02; Seaside Heights, NJ): Shane
Douglas pins Corino...7/7/02 (Zero-One "Impossible
To Escape" PPV): Tom Howard & Nathan Jones d. Steve
Corino & Rapid Fire Maldonado
(9:11)...Corino competed in the 6/19/02 gauntlet battle
royal to crown a brand-new NWA World Heavyweight Champion
at the debut show (on Pay-Per-View) of NWA-TNA (Total
Nonstop Action), ran by the Jarrett family. He was the
17th competitor to enter and survived down to the final
six out of a total of 20 men...JAPW Summer Shore Series
(8/10/02; Seaside Heights, NJ): Current WWE Commentator
Jerry "The King" Lawler pins Corino after a
Piledriver...PCW (8/31/02; Toms River, NJ): PCW's
"Russ Haas Memorial Cup" featured a tag team
tournament. The S.A.T. (Spanish Announce Team) (Joel
Maximo & Jose Maximo) d. Red & Stryker and Divine
Storm (Chris Devine & Quiet Storm) in 8:23 when The
S.A.T. pinned Storm after hitting The Spanish Fly. Since
Red & Stryker didn't get pinned, they advanced to the
next round, and in their second round match, Red pinned
one of the S.A.T. members at 4:45 (the match was
continued from the first round match, so the total match
time was 13:08). Stryker injured his knee during the
second round match, so in the third round match, Steve
Corino replaced him and teamed with Stryker against
OVW'ers The Damaja & Doug Basham. Damaja &
Basham, though, would eventually win the match at 10:54
and advance to the finals. They eventually lost the final
match to Nova and R.C. Haas in 10:32...Corino was
mentioned in the October 2002 WWE Magazine, which was
released in early September 2002. The magazine featured a
story called, "DIVAS: "The Next
Generation." It gave informative recaps of the
careers of four of the newest WWE divas, and one was
former-ECW valet Dawn Marie. The following was said about
Marie: "By the time ECW folded in January 2001, she
had led the Impact Players to two ECW Tag Team titles and
Steve Corino to the ECW Heavyweight
Championship."...ROH Glory By Honor (10/5/02;
Philadelphia, PA): There were several special guests at
the show: The Insane Clown Posse (Shaggy 2 Dope &
Violent J) (who defeated Mr. X & Y), along with CZW
wrestlers John Zandig, Wifebeater, Adam Flash, Nate
Hatred, & The Backseat Boyz (Trent Acid & Johnny
Kashmere). Corino wrestled two matches. In his first
match: The Backseat Boyz d. Homicide & Corino.
During the match, Corino and Homicide miscommunicated
with eachother a few times, and when Homicide accidentily
forearmed Corino down, Corino lost it and turned on
Homicide. This allowed The Backseats to hit The T-Gimmick
(Joint Lifting Crucifix Powerbomb) for the pinfall over
Homicide. NOTE: The reason that Corino teamed with
Homicide and Homicide's regular Natural Born Sinners
partner, Boogalu, didn't is because Boogalu had accpeted
an offer from Rob Black's XPW that was running down the
street. Boogalu broke his obligations to ROH to compete
that night, as he no-showed, and was therefore fired. The
reason that the CZW'ers were in attendance was because,
about a week before the show, CZW and ROH agreed to have
a working relationship. In his second: a bloody Corino
d. Rudy Boy Gonzalez in a "Texas Death Match"
via a Cobra Clutch Sleeper. However, when Corino
continued beating down on Gonzalez until Paul London made
the save with a ladder....
