Back On the Shelf
This is the space where I unload whatever thoughts pass through my head. It may or may not be often that I post.
Family, etc.

My 86-year-old dad wrecked his Tahoe on I-15 Wednesday. Fortunately, no one was hurt. He had passed a semi-truck, pulled in front of it too closely, slowed down and got rear-ended by the truck. The last time he made contact with a semi was when he deliberately rammed his Tahoe (four times!) into one parked across the road at a potato warehouse in Menan. So, he's had contact with trucks in the front and the rear. Unlike the first incident in Menan, he was cited this time. I'm afraid it's time for him to quit driving. As cantankerous (which is nothing new) as he is, it'll be hard to convince him. His road rage is out of control and he won't recognize it. My mom didn't even seem too rattled by any of it. I guess her living with him for 60 years has made her numb to his antics.  It's worse than an out-of-control teenager. With a teenager, you could simply take away the keys. It won't be that simple with dad.

My brother who had cancer five years ago was diagnosed with diabetes this week. His doctor here sent him to the Huntsman Institute in SLC to have what he thought was a cyst on his pancreas checked by his cancer surgeon. What relief it was when he called on his way home to tell me that it was merely some scar tissue and there was nothing to worry about. He dodged another bullet. I love my brother so much and I need him to stick around as long as he can.

R's nephew came over Thursday wanting to buy our house. We had entertained the idea of selling it a couple of times in the past. The reasons we didn't sell it before are the same ones we didn't that changed our thinking before. The replacement cost is staggering, we owe very little on this one, mortgage interest rates have gone up since we refinanced at 4.25%, we like the privacy of our backyard (well, except for the kinky neighbor a half-mile west of us) and our hot tub. So, here we're parked.

I'm taking a trip to Boise in two weeks for a visit with our friends before they move her mom in with them. Our friends are selling their house and building a new one to accommodate her widowed mom. Her mom is selling her home and putting her money into their new house. I would love to have her mom's house. It's located on a pretty golf course. She and her husband just bought it two years ago. It's a perfect floor plan and a great location. But...

Thankfully, the rains are helping to control the fires here and in Montana. It's been one smoky year.

The golf tournament we were going to play today has been moved to next Saturday. Tonight is an open house honoring Jerry, our retiring golf pro. After 31 years of dealing with the stockholders and the public, I don't know how he maintained his sanity. Maybe he didn't.

We're off to Texas Roadhouse for lunch. Later, fans.
