Saturday was the 25th Annual AJ Trucking (Craig Smith) Hicks (Fred) Helm (Dave) four-person bestball tournament. There were 100 players. One of my favorite people, Sgt. Major (Ret.) Jerry Jenson, led the flag-raising ceremony. He did a reading about the flag and the VFW did the flag ceremony. They paid tribute to our troops and veterans. They mentioned my son who is "over there." Everyone was in tears. There were lots of hugs and sniffles. It was touching. That bunch of people at Jefferson Hills are more of a family to me than my own.
Although we didn't win, my team was a great mix. Randy Luke (our course superintendent and next head pro), Mary Treasure (my high school boyfriend's wife who used to hate me), and Ben Olaveson (the sexy youngster) and me. Mary rode with me and told me probably too much information about Ben and his for-profit activities with older women while he lived in California. He is a dangerous child and now I better understand the games he plays. Mary also told me that she is over being threatened by me. She is a Mexican who has no problem making fun of herself. She is from a little town near Boise. When she and Gary married, she thought I was still after him. I tried to convince her otherwise. She told me that Gary has always said nice things about me and it made her angry and jealous. I feel better now knowing that she's over it and we can be friends. Had I been after him, he and everyone else would have known it. It was a great time...again.
Speaking of golf, I think Tiger Woods put on one of his best ever performances at the PGA Championship. Even though I get irritated with the commentators and their obsession with Tiger, he is a truly gifted young man. He has matured and overcome his pouting and the fits he used to throw on the course. His will be one of the greatest sports stories in history. It already is and he's only 30. Good for him. He is a great inspiration for others and good for the game.
R's 16-year-old niece is home and doing her chemo here. My hairdresser was diagnosed with the same thing(non-Hodgkin's lymphona) about five years ago. His was a more advanced stage than Rachel's is and he is doing well now. It's a good reassurance for R's mom and the family.
It's nice to have the house to myself again until Thursday night. I have some projects for the week and our friends from Boise will be here Friday. We always enjoy each other's company.
