Politics:
- Democrats claim that the 2000 presidential election was stolen from them, and launch a huge effort to register as many new voters as they can. Result: Bush wins re-election by several million more votes than he got in 2000.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel:
- Cordelia-haters were outraged over her more sympathetic portrayal on "Angel." Result: she became a love interest for Angel.
- Cordelia/Angel shippers were outraged that the two of them never got together. Result: Cordy got killed off after major com-shoks with both the Groosalug and Angel's son Connor.
- online fans complained that no one but Joss Whedon (in his portrayal of Willow and Tara) avoided the stereotype of the dead evil lesbian. Result: Tara became a dead lesbian, and Willow became an evil lesbian.
- Buffy/Angel shippers were outraged over her relationship with the "safe" Riley. Result: She became Spike's love kitten.
- hardcore fans were outraged over Spike as a love interest for Buffy. Result: they got graphic depictions of her orally gratifying Spike, plus scenes of them going at it standing up in an alley, and standing up from behind at the Bronze!
Xena: Warrior Princess
- online fans were outraged that the writers refused to "out" Xena and Gabrielle. Result: Gabrielle marries a man and loses her virginity to him, then makes out with Joxer repeatedly, while Xena has sex scenes with Caesar and Borias.
- the same fans are outraged by the above, and verbally abuse the producers and writers on the internet. Result: Gabrielle gets raped and impregnated by a demon, then dragged behind a horse by Xena, then tossed off a cliff by Xena, then poisoned by an arrow, and then seemingly dies, while Xena is depicted going at it under a bear-skin doggy-style with Borias.
- fans are further enraged by the above. Result: Xena is also impregnated, has numerous love scenes with Ares and Mark Antony, and nearly kills Gabrielle with a chakram to the head.
- fan outrage reaches a fever pitch over these two soulmates being kept apart by the evil writers and producers; fans maintain that their convention attendance, costume-wearing, fan-fiction-writing, and merchandise purchases show that they understand the characters better that the writers, producers, directors and stars. Result: the show repeatedly airs modern-day episodes mocking obsessed fans, showing them being punched by villains and treated to images of Joxer's "sun-kissed buttocks." The show concludes with images Xena's headless body, her body-less head, and Gabrielle as a spiky-haired, tattooed loner talking to herself while Xena's spirit frolics in a celestial hot-tub with an under-aged ghostly Japanese nymphet.
Sci-Fi Channel:
- Online fans are outraged over "low-budget crap" like "Alien Apocalypse" and "Pterodactyl." Result: Those two films set new viewership records for the network, get written up in the NY Times and USA Today, and cause Sci-Fi to greenlight a record 28 similar films.
- Fans are outraged over horror and fantasy being on a network called "Sci-Fi." Result: More non-science fiction, including shows like "Passions," "ECW," and "Law & Order" are also aired, and pro wrestling becomes the network's highest rated new programprogram.
- Fans are outraged over their opinions above not being valued, and slander the network execs, and harass other fans online, maintaining that the network should air more shows like "Stargate." Result: "Stargate" gets cancelled.
