Hmm...the
signs are positive. With the fall bringing in a lot of Oscar
worthy flicks to your screens, this movie looks like the last
popcorn action flicks left. And that could mean that this film
might take it all when the flick opens. And trust me, the
signs does get even better when you realise that all the
biggies slated to open on this date have reshuffled their
dates meaning The
Rundown
looks all set to open right at the top of the charts. But how
long will it stay there is another question you can ponder on
later.
Welcome
to the UNDERWORLD - the world where still the creatures of the
night still stroll. And where for years a war is going on
between the vampires and the lycan race comprising of
werewolves.

And
amidst this war emerges a romance when one of the foremost
vampire warriors Selene (Kate
Beckinsale)
loses her heart to a werewolf by the name of Michael (Scott
Speedman).
Selene, whose aim is to kill off all werewolves suddenly is
forced to think twice when she meets the peace loving Michael
who is hoping that this war can end once and for all.
So
take the tale of Romeo and Juliet, make a modern day spin-off,
throw in lots of blood and gore to give it a horror genre
touch and lots of leather and action sequences to keep the
'Matrix' trend alive and kicking.
It
will be interesting to see how can Kate Beckinsale can carry
off a flick like this solely on her own. But to give her
credit, ever since the promos and teasers have been emerging
all across, it has to be admitted that Beckinsale looks all
set to kill and thrill.
Director
Len Wiseman is no stranger to the world of Hollywood,
and was behind the team of special effects galore sci-fi
flicks like Independence Day, Star gate and Godzilla. So that
experience shows with the special effects certainly looking a
cut above the rest.
But
even before the film and its promos hit the limelight, the
film was already in talks in the gossip circles mainly due to
the offscreen romance that bloomed between the director
Wiseman and his heroine Beckinsale. How much is that offscreen
romance going to affect the movie's fate has to be seen. The
last time something like that happened, what we ended up
getting was a rotten Gigli.
Let's hope nothing like that happens.
Meanwhile
even if you are not a horror genre fan, action fans can be
pleased about the fact that the services of the Matrix fight
choreographers were used to bring magic to the fight sequences
featured in the film.
So
excuse the film if it looks a lot like a John Woo flick. But
the real question is how well can UNDERWORLD emerge on its
own? Lets wait and watch...
