Walter
(Haley Joel Osment) , a young introvert teenager suddenly
finds himself having to spend the summer with his rather
eccentric great-uncles Hub and Garth (Robert Duvall and
Michael Caine).
Though
they are his great-uncles, for Walter these two are total
strangers living in some Texas farm. And what more, the uncles
are also hardly expecting this kid to show up. So when the kid
does show up, these two grumpy old men hardly holds any
interest in taking care of the boy.
But
soon the summer does get very interesting for the three of
them, as Walter gets to learn more about these old folks and
discovers a lot about their great pasts. As the stories
unfold, even one about hidden treasures, we find a
heart-warming bonding between the three that makes the summer
quite unforgettable.
Another
spotlight role for the young talent of Haley Joel Osment
comes in the form of Secondhand
Lions.
And this is the transformation of Osment from the little boy
from 'Sixth Sense' into the teenager mould of things.

But
Osment is certainly not going to steal the show from the likes
of two great actors like Michael Caine and Robert Duvall.
Afterall these two are undoubtedly the pillars as far as the
movie is concerned.
A
tale about beliefs and adventures, of exotic tales where even
fantasies become realities that boasts of some big time
special effects in order to bring things alive on screen.

PS:
This movie seems to have a similar theme like that of Tim
Burton's upcoming flick Big
Fish.
But I am sure that Burton's visionary images can never be
matched by these makers. But definitely being released way
ahead of the Burton movie, they definitely have an advantage
here.
